Womb played for 3 hours accompanying mud-wrestling at Kraak Gallery in the Northern Quarter of Manchester. This was a fundraiser for the upcoming Manchester Art Crawl.

Womb members Rosanne, Elv, Fiona, Jen, Lou, Helen, Emily, Whitney, Alison and Lauren got involved in the making of music. Rosanne was the only Womber who had a 'dirt fight' or two on the night. BIG UP!!

Womb supported Electrelane at Manchester Academy 3 with Halo Halo also on the bill.

With 14 Womb members on a small stage, the sound engineer nearly had a heart-attack and asked the band to start earlier than planned. Womb started playing at 7:45pm and the audience filtered in during the set. We got some excellent reviews, many including the words 'coming up' and 'tingles down my spine'... Bleeding Heart Narrative - The Cartographer

The first Cher On Acid collaboration. Cher on Acid tracks Bad Drunk and Inhale were sent to Noise Research for the upcoming experimental electronic music compilation (out mid-March). Ian Simpson of Noise Research remixed both tracks using the two tracks alone with no extra sounds, just an array of metallic, distopian sounding effects.

Fearless Leader (2006, revised Spring 2007)
was partially inspired by a quote from the Hungarian composer Gyorgy Ligeti: “Now there is no taboo; everything is allowed. But one cannot simply go back to tonality, its just not the way. We must find a way of neither going back nor continuing the avant-garde. I am in a prison: one wall is the avant-garde, the other wall is the past, and I cannot escape."
FL was originally conceived as a modular improvisation (in the style of Terry Riley's Tread on the Trail) but didn't work as intended (modular improvisation and the resulting rhythmic syncopations didn't mix well). the orchestration also went through quite a few revisions and for a long time i considered it the black sheep of my PBE repertoire. i guess it goes to show that sometimes you gotta stick with something until you get it right.

Fearless Leader

it is interesting to note (at least to me) that although all of michael nyman's music from the peter greenaway film the draughtsman's contract was derived from a purcell chaconne and the ground bass (on which this piece is built) was subsequently discovered to have been written by william croft a lesser-known contemporary of purcell.

this arrangement started as a personal transcription/score study (because many of nyman's score are not available) of nyman's fascinating and economical use of orchestration and uses most of the melodic materials from the original, freely combing them to create a bizzaro world second cousin. the results of what i learned by studying this piece were later explored and applied to my own chaconne based romp;  "fearless leader"
