"Serhat’s work has long been characterized by what it  rejects: global biennials that turn artists and their work  into emblems of the exotic; the promotion of tourism that  does the same to a country’s citizens; the establishment  of economic bonds between nations by and for their elites, under the guise of what he calls “dialogue fetishism.” Beğenal, a program of concerts, video screenings, performances, and political theatrics shadowing Istanbul Biennial, is the latest project to take up these criticisms. Pronounced almost like “biennial,”  beğenal is Turkish for “if you like it, buy it”; the project’s  logo is a man-as-red-star caricature vomiting up various  corporate-style logos, responding to the biennial’s slogan — courtesy of Brecht: “What Keeps Mankind Alive?” — with “This Is How Mankind Pukes!” But Serhat  is no mere refusenik. For the last year, he has been spearheading the International Roaming Biennial of Tehran, a nomadic exhibition of work that has traveled to Berlin, Istanbul, and Belgrade .. Post-Orientalism is a term coined by the Composer and music theorist Ehsan Saboohi to describe a music language for analyzing the aesthetics of his and his colleagues’ compositions. Saboohi defines this language as follows:
“Post-Orientalism is a modern music language that uses microtonal sounds and intervals alongside altered sound chain and block structures to achieve a post-orientalism musical piece in different acoustic and electroacoustic compositions.”
Ehsan Saboohi, in his third composition period, is looking for a different language of common Contemporary Classical music trends by taking inspiration from the philosophical-social ideas of the famous philosopher Edward Said (1935-2003).

Post-Orientalism No. 0, Sound block VII ( La Mer)

The new music and sound performance by Ali Ostovar explores working with objects associated with his memories from the past, especially in relation to his childhood memories with his father in his native Iran. The title of the performance refers to a song of the same name by Delkash, one of the iconic singers of the 1940s–1960s in Iran. Ali listened to many Iranian songs at home during childhood, as his father was fascinated with listening to and playing traditional music. The title also refers to his life story of carrying a broken Iranian setar around Europe for more than 12 years to find someone who could fix it; he still kept it even after buying a new one.
At the performance, he will play approximately 60 minutes of live-electronic music using his laptop, a few cassette players, a synthesizer, and possibly other instruments, questioning what it means to bring the past into the present or keep it there. Does the past consist only of what we remember? And what about what we don’t remember?
He recreates personal memories by selecting different sound materials, using sonic metaphors and transculturation, and playing with time, frequencies, and transformation.

I composed this piece based on a poem, and I incorporated the poetic atmosphere into the composition.

گردباد که آمد
همه چیز را با خود برد
جز درخت یادت
که ریشه در زمین داشت.


When the tornado came,
It took everything with itself,
Except for the tree of your memory,
Which had its roots in the ground.

Form:

In this piece, the form is theme and variations. This piece has a duration of 231 seconds, which is three minutes and fifty-one seconds. I used the abjad system for a Persian word from the poem " گردباد," which means tornado, for this duration. An abjad is a system of notation in which each letter of the Arabic alphabet is assigned a numerical value.

Abtin Golfam
 (b. 2003), AKA ‘T-Noll’ is an independent composer from Iran. He started playing music when he was a teenager, playing 'violin'. He started composing since he was attending the Music Conservatory in Karaj-school. He is influenced by a variety of different music, including hip-hop and more Contemporary art-movements all beyond his interest in Modern music, schools like Futurism. He has already published three independent music albums. 
He pursued his passion into music by attending the art-school for fine-arts before attending the Music conservatory in the city of Karaj. He received music instructions from credible musicians, including Afshin Alvavi, Siavash Esmaili, Hesam Jafari, Farhad Ebrahimkhani, Alireza Akbarpour. He has received a few awards for his performance with the ‘Sehtar’ instrument at least for two consecutive competitions while studying at the art-school. He eventually started studying ‘Audio Technology', at Azad University Central Tehran branch, where he is currently receiving education under the supervision of Reza Sabooni. 
He employs creative coding, programming environments and generally the sound technology for making sounds,  using Pure Data (A visual and interactive computer music development programming language).

Kian Hossein is a composer and sound-designer from Tehran, Iran. He started to learn music in 2006 by receiving piano lessons. He gradually became interested in electronic music and sound design and spent portions of his free time to experiment and self- study. He discovered his passion for contemporary music and composition after starting to work as a professional sound artist and started to study under the provision of Nima Atrkar Rowshan and Ardavan Vosoughi. Yet his works have been performed at various events ranging from music festivals to theatrical performances.
