This is the short set i played for the Sets on the Edge session at The Banff Centre for the Arts, Wednesday Oct 8 2014. My first public performance of the live improvisational loop music rig ive been constructing for my musicians residency here at the Centre. Good fun.

My submission for the Monome Community Remix Project #10. In this version of the project samples were pulled from previous versions of the MCRP, in a event so meta the internet might not be able to handle it. See http://mcrpmusic.bandcamp.com for the whole album.
I used only two samples, but a hell of a lot of processing in Ableton and reaktor. I laid out the tracks and effects live in multiple passes using my monome 128 and BCR2000. This is also the first time I've used a frequency shifter in anything... like most things, when used subtly it can be good! 
After some mild tweaking, this is the result. Enjoy... or not. Up to you...

Solid Steel in association with Serato (24th April) This week we launch a brand new Solid Steel website at http://solidsteel.net and we're delighted to welcome back two guests Caribou and Colleen with exclusive new mixes to celebrate. They both appeared in the same show 10 years ago and on the new website you can hear their 2005 mixes in the Featured section, along with Caribou’s mix from 2000 when he was still known as Manitoba. "It's hard to believe it's been 10 years since my most recent Solid Steel mix (and even longer since my first one). A lot has happened in between then and now but even more has stayed the same - just like the mix 10 years ago, this one's made up of music old and new which I've come across recently - plus a couple favourites which I've been playing for a long long time."

Tom Waits (on Jim Wilson): "Wilson, he's always playing with time. I heard a recording recently of crickets slowed way down. It sounds like a choir, it sounds like angel music. Something sparkling, celestial with full harmony and bass parts - you wouldn't believe it. It's like a sweeping chorus of heaven, and it's just slowed down, they didn't manipulate the tape at all. So I think when Wilson slows people down, it gives you a chance to watch them moving through space. And there's something to be said for slowing down the world."
