ROUDANI 434» est l’un des projets réalisés au cours de la résidence. Conçu par Paul Armand- Delille en collaboration avec des musiciens de la vallée du Souss et de la région du Haut Atlas. Les enregistrements ont ensuite été mixés à la SIRA, ancienne imprimerie à Asnières sur Seine et quartier général de MAD Agency.

La pochette a été réalisée par l’artiste Thomas Mailaender à partir d’anciennes photographies africaines. Elle résulte d’un travail de colorisation à l’aquarelle.

￼Dans cet EP, Paul Armand-Delille nous offre un instantané musical de Taroudant, ville-carrefour des cultures l’Atlas marocain. On y retrouve les sonorités gnawa : la basse guembri et le son métallique des caracavas avec Abdallah Roudani et son groupe, les chants de Moncif Bouboul. On découvre également la voix puissante du poète Simo Baala, et le chant inspiré d’Andrey Zouari qui côtoie le Violon berbère, la flute en roseau, ou l’Oud. Paul y pose à son tour, des solos de guitare flamenco, ainsi qu’une production léchée mêlant synthétiseurs analogiques et touches subtiles électroniques.

L’EP « ROUDANI 434 » est l’aboutissement d’un travail d’échange culturel et créatif. Il regroupe cinq titres fleuves où les musiciens s’expriment à tour de rôle, par des solos ou par des textes en arabe, anglais ou français, dans un cercle musical où chacun prend tout à tour la parole comme le veut la tradition gnawa.

La concrétisation du projet s’est traduite par une performance réunissant chants traditionnels, instruments divers et séquences électroniques ; pour le plaisir d’un public roudanais peu habitué à voir sa culture locale revisitée.

Après avoir été diffusé sur des bornes d’écoute pendant les expos du ‘434’, l’EP «ROUDANI 434» arrive sur les plateformes numériques le 21 juin 2013.

Anne Müller with Alex Stolze - Solo? Repeat! (LIVE)

Solo Collective is a new ensemble comprised of German chamber musicians Alex Stolze (violin) and Anne Müller (cello), with British pianist and producer Sebastian Reynolds. Conceptually, the trio present themselves as a rotating cast of three soloists who take turns in the spotlight, with the other two providing supporting roles.

Solo Collective met through the Berlin music scene in 2016. Firstly Sebastian met Anne, who collaborated on Sebastian’s track Holy Island, which features on the record. The three then made their debut performances at sold out concerts in Berlin and Hannover in February 2017, and will be releasing their debut record, Part One, via Alex’s Nonostar Records. Following the success of these first performances in Germany, the trio will tour the UK this September and November.
 
The three musicians are all well established in their own right. Alex Stolze rose to European fame with his band Bodi Bill, who had a string of chart hits in Germany, and as a member of the internationally renowned modern jazz ensemble Dictaphone (Denovali Records). Alex has a long history with the Berlin techno scene since, including co-founding Krakatau records. He is currently finishing the follow-up to his 2016 debut solo record, Mankind Animal. 
 
Having previously spent many years touring and recording with Agnes Obel, Anne Müller is also well known as a long-term musical partner of Nils Frahm. Anne collaborated with Nils on many of his projects, including 2011’s 7fingers and the 2015 soundtrack for the motion picture Victoria, which won ‘Best Film Score’ at the German Film Awards. More recently Anne has been working with Nils’ Erased Tapes label mate Ben Lukas Boysen, and is making plans to release her debut solo album. 
 
Sebastian Reynolds is a lynchpin of the UK experimental/alternative music scene, having led cult ensembles Keyboard Choir and Braindead Collective, as well as playing sax for The War On Drugs and working on recordings with former Slit Viv Albertine . In addition to the Solo Collective collaboration, Sebastian continues to operate as a solo artist, and is working on commissions to create scores for two contemporary dance works – the Thai-inspired Mahajanaka and Puzzle Creature – in collaboration with Neon Dance Company, known for their choreography/dance pieces which have featured scores by the likes of Nils Frahm, Efterklang and Peter Broderick. 
 
Part One is strikingly coherent as a listening experience, moving between sonorous string ensemble composition, abrasive electronic textures, processed vocals and atmospheric, evocative piano.

“Where I grew up, we say you have two get blessings from you parents,” explains Falle Nioke. “It is not something money can buy. One of my friends told me he couldn't understand why he was struggling, why he couldn’t succeed in business and why no opportunities were coming his way.

“There was an old man listening to us talking who asked, ‘do you have parents?’ My friend said that he did. The man said to go and visit them and when you see them working you must help them. Give them a hand and once you do that you will get a blessing. That is a secret of this life.”

FALLE NIOKE is a singer and percussionist from Guinea Conakry, West Africa. He sings in French and English, Susu, Fulani, Malinke and Coniagui, and plays a range of cultural African instruments to accompany his voice (gongoma, Bolon, Cassi).

Since arriving in the UK two years ago, after a period travelling around West Africa, singing with a troupe of musicians and learning different cultural rhythms, the 33 year old has been making music with a number of producers, including Johan Hugo, Congo Natty, Sir Was and Ghost Culture.

Collaborator GHOST CULTURE (James Greenwood)’s masterful use of electronics portray a beguiling musical landscape, one inspired equally by Arthur Russell and Elliot Smith as much as LFO or Aphex Twin.

Nearly five years since its release via Errol Alkan’s Phantasy Sound label, his debut LP still proves to be a hugely satisfying and charismatic trip. Celebrated as Critic’s Choice in The Guardian Guide, it earned similar plaudits from outlets including The Observer, The Times, Mixmag and The Quietus, who hailed it as “one of the best and most confident debuts in years.”

He continues to have a wide impact on the culture of UK electronic music, owing to his ongoing production work with artists such as Daniel Avery and Kelly Lee Owens.

Field Kit reach new levels of genre-crossing proficiency with new track Don’t. Still united by a combination of classical musicality and electronic experimentation, Don’t brings a minimal, alternative pop sensibility to Field Kit’s rich musical palette, with Hannah von Hübbenet’s artfully distorted vocal forming the centrepoint and a driving, infectious beat building throughout. Within its deconstructed pop song form, Don’t takes us on a brief but profoundly expressive journey of musical intensities and distinctions.

Building on this sense of juxtaposition, contrast and bold experimentation, the video for Don’t combines flickering collaged footage with the live movements of Hannah von Hübbenet and the dancer and performance artist Kaschka Lebedew; at times the bodies of the performers seem to be independent of the world of the footage, at other moments their worlds are united by images projected directly onto the body - an unexpected harmony of contrasting form that perfectly fits Field Kit’s increasingly expansive sound. The video was directed by Lorea Arcelus, filmed by Andrea Huyoff and Dana Tomos and edited by Andrea Huyoff.

Don’t is the latest Field Kit single, taken from their upcoming self-titled debut album on Nonostar Records. Previous single Downward Rising was featured by some of Spotify’s most respected independent playlisters. Don’t is the first Field Kit release to feature a vocal part, representing exciting new territory for the collective.

Now signed to innovative independent label Nonostar Records, Field Kit’s debut album is out on June 4, 2021.
