Doing exactly what it says on the tin, ‘Buzzer’ by Chicanx producer Jdotbalance is an energetic record buzzing with the sexy, raucous energy the artist has quickly become known for. The track is taken from their forthcoming vinyl debut on Fixed Rhythms titled ‘High Exposure’ and will be released on the 29th July.

✤ Gaspard Emma Hers (they/them) aka DJ Würm is a young pluridisciplinary artist from Brussels. Their work explores the dissociative state between multiple collapsing realities and multiple identities. Using various aliases and media, combining irony and the grotesque, their work, like a diary, draws on popular references tinged with magic. They are taking great inspiration from chamber black metal, swampy rave sounds, and crappy horror movies.

We celebrate two years of Shika Shika with the release of our third compilation: Eco. 

Eco sums up what Shika Shika is about - the global reverberations of styles, genres, traditions and sounds moving around the world and fusing to create inspiring new music. We call it music without borders and on Eco we present 11 tracks that are exactly that. 

The tracks we hand-picked for Eco draw inspiration from traditional rhythms, stories and melodies and fuse them with individual inspirations, sounds from nature and electronic music. This is exemplified on Di Laif’s anthemic opener “Paso Por el Fuego” or Guazú’s incredible “Pava de Monte” featuring Wenceslada. Some artists like Jin Jerei and Oxhalá take us on a journey deep into their roots while others like Didacte and O.R. create atmospheric textural, electronic-organic soundscapes. Ibu Selva’s “Chega de Esperar” is a rework of a Brazilian agrarian reform anthem while Klik & Frik offer up a beautiful edit of Hassan Ben Jaafar, a master of Moroccan Gnawa music. 

It is hard to believe it has been two years since Shika Shika was started as a platform to showcase some of the music we truly loved from the thriving community from Sao Paulo to Seoul. Two years of connections, exchanges, ideas, new sounds and, most of all, incredible support and feedback from the people who listen & buy this music all over the world. We started Shika Shika as a way to give exposure and support to this community, sharing 70% of all the profits with the artists directly, and are inspired to continue pushing the music we love. 

Thank you to everyone who has supported us so far. We all appreciate it dearly.

With four APR releases under his belt, SHALT turns in his longest statement to date in Seraphim, a mini-epic that unfolds over six intricately arranged, brilliantly colored acts. Once again focusing in on the intersection between the technological and the natural, the London-based producer builds a narrative around an angelic being, a visage displayed by accompanying video work by Los Angeles' Nick Zhu. More concretely, the album delves into the contradictions inherent in technological development, ruminating over the capitalist myth of scarcity, coming (and present) ecological disaster, and the contemporary path of medical research.

Sonically, Seraphim features a fusion of the sensibilities featured on Acheron, Inertia and ʃælt, noisy effects and a barrage of rugged percussion juxtaposed with passages of melodic bliss. It's music preoccupied with technology, but with a naturalistic ethos at its core, emphasizing our confusion over humanity's influence on the world (even when uncynically trying to perform good deeds). That ethos is embodied in the baroque ambience of "Seraph", as well as the impactful, multi-layered crack of "Fleeting". It's deeply visual music and like the best sci-fi, deals with lasting contemporary issues under the guise of futurity. As described by the Bureau of Linguistical Reality, we are living in shadowtime and Seraphim is a nod to the distinct intellectual, moral and temporal crisis of our time.
 
Seraphim features album art work and vinyl design by Isaac Chabon and accompanying video work by Nick Zhu and Tea Stražičić. It will be released digitally and in a limited LP press.

Kludde is a shapeshifting waterdemon from belgian folklore that walks on his hind legs and who jumps on to the backs of people wandering outside the city alone at night. When he catches you, you have to walk with him on your back until the first sunlight. Kludde often transforms himself into a tree, small and delicate at first, but rapidly shooting into the clouds, while everything it shadows is thrown into confusion. Again, he presents himself as a black dog, running on its hind-legs, with a chain round its throat; and will spring at the throat of the first person he meets, fling him to the ground, and vanish.

The physical release is in the form of limited edition boosterpacks with unique artworks for each artist. Inside the booster pack you will find 20 tracks and 18 depictions of Kludde. Now available on Bandcamp. Link in profile.
