As Hispanic Heritage Month came to a close, we decided to continue learning about the culture by extending our celebration through November 1st. This timing worked perfectly to keep teens engaged as they transitioned out of the excitement of Halloween.

We discussed the meaning behind Día de los Muertos and created space for open, vulnerable conversation. Many of our teens don’t often have a safe place to express feelings of loss or grief—some had never talked about it at all. This project opened the door for those important conversations while giving them a chance to honor their loved ones.

To close the activity, we recorded personal messages reflecting on the question: If you could speak to someone who has passed, what would you want to say?
