Executively produced by youth producer, IV, The Dream is your Trap cliff notes to your annual Black History Month lesson. 
Featuring rappers Lil Spittii and Eric (from the South and North Nashville N4N Studios) The track features a Clifford Curry sample of his song “Ain’t No Danger.” Curry was a notable R&B and Soul musician active in the Nashville music scene from the late 50’s up to the late 90’s. The Nashville Scene called him Nashville’s R&B Hero. Nashville is often said to be more than just Country and this track, along with Clifford Curry, proves that. Nashville’s Jefferson St. which connects its two Historically Black Colleges,Tennessee State University and Fisk University (and ironically connects our two N4N studios in North Nashville), was a haven for Jazz and Blues music. Nashville’s Queen of Blues, Marion James, remembers a time where there was a Jazz or Blues club on every corner. Artists like Etta James, Jimi Hendrix and Hank Crawford spent some of the earliest years of their careers developing their sound, creating, and performing right here in Nashville, Tennessee. This fresh take on a historic track is the perfect soundtrack for highlighting the amazing accomplishments of Black Americans past and present

 I have learned now that thematic ideas and personal experiences are my biggest source of inspiration in terms of the topic for the lyrics. I am most productive in short bursts during the witching hours! My choral background comes in handy when trying to add layers of harmonies and effects to see what is compatible with the melody. 
     I was a little skeptical when I was first introduced to the Hip Hop/Rap genre, but I have grown quite fond of it, bad words and all ;). So, I wanted to give these “sick beats” a shot just for fun, knowing that even if it didn’t go well, hopefully, it would crack someone up. 
     One of the biggest challenges was learning how to navigate the musical software. Due to COVID, the new program had to be accessible from home. It was frustrating at first, because I had the tune, lyrics, and beat but didn't know where to go from there. Mr. Price has been extremely supportive and patient throughout, and I am extremely grateful for all his lessons. He has taught me not to shy away from the more technical side of music-making, and in doing so, he enabled me to take charge and experiment with different effects. Over time, I have come to feel more comfortable with the features, and that has motivated me to take risks when “mixing” the track. Slowly, the vision comes to life.
