'CCT' from Philadelphia’s Precolumbian and Estoc meets at the genre-transcendent intersection of Afro-Peruvian percussion and hardstyle. The artists are also founders of Search Engine, a new club night that showcases trans women DJs and producers, while creating a safe space to explore nontraditional club music.

CCT intersects at the cross-section of the producers’ styles, finding an alliance between cajón and hypnotic, driving club music. CCT offers intricate-yet-club functional drum programming, with breaks that are as ready for the dance floor as it is for remixing. 

CCT references music that Precolumbian grew up listening to and that has been with her throughout her life. Both tracks hone in on festejo and landó music, paramount rhythms in Afro-Peruvian music that incorporates heavy use of the cajón percussion instrument, which forms the basis of much of Perú’s national music heritage. 

Precolumbian is a Philadelphia-based DJ, musician and cultural creator. She is co-founder of queer experimental club night Seltzer. Her work was honored with the 2013 Leeway Transformation Award and has been featured in The Fader, NPR, MTV, Remezcla, and Fact Magazine. Recent notable performances include: iBomba Boiler Room, Red Bull Radio, Toronto Pride, Macrock, Rolling Stone Latino at The Latin Grammys, and The Baltimore Museum of Art.

Estoc is a DJ and producer currently based in Philadelphia. Her work is centered around the intersection of antifascism and hardcore music. She has been featured in Fact Mag, Tiny Mixtapes, i-D, and Resident Advisor, among others. She has also made mixes for Rage Radio, The Astral Plane, Stock71, Seltzer, and many more.

Precolumbian & Estoc – "CCT02"

On September 20th, Brooklyn-based record label APOCALIPSIS released 'Sin Fronteras,' a 36-track benefit compilation with 100% proceeds going to immigrant defense organizations RAICES, Immigrant Defense Project, and Detention Watch Network. Sin Fronteras unapologetically affirms the rights and dignity of immigrant communities, and stands in solidarity with efforts to abolish an oppressive legal and immigration system.

Released exclusively through APOCALIPSIS’ Bandcamp page, Sin Fronteras features contributions by artists across club music undergrounds, spanning geographies of Houston, New York City, Miami, Philadelphia, Los Angeles, and beyond. The compilation presents heart-centered storytelling unconfined by genre, merging dancehall en español, percussion-driven club tools, noise-inflected dembow, experimental pop, and disruptive soundscapes across an array of atmospheric dancefloor mutations.

APOCALIPSIS amplifies the stories of artists ni de aquí, ni de allá (neither from here, nor there), doing everything in its power to redistribute equity in the music industry.

Featuring a host of new additions to the label family including the likes of Tzusing, object blue, Chevel and Ehua, as well as long-term associates DJ JM and DJ Plead and bosses TSVI and Wallwork, ‘NH VOL 3’ traverses everything from reggaeton to techno, exploring some of the most upfront and abstract club sounds emanating from dance floors all over the world.

Constantly evolving, the tracklist’s shifts in tempo, rhythm and palette are reflective of TSVI and Wallwork’s borderless approach to the club that’s seen them oversee releases ranging from stark, explosive Gqom (Da Soul Boyz) to powerful, game-changing drum tracks (DJ Plead) over the last five years.

‘NH VOL 3' takes this outlook fully global; Chinese producer Tzusing throws out pulsing, peak- time techno on ‘24hr’ with TSVI, Wallwork experiments at 100bpm on ‘Hacienda’ — a track inspired by Lisbon’s Taraxxo club beats — and Italian-Ivorian producer Ehua enchants on the explosive ‘Meteora’.

@pouch-envy, the promiscuous alter ego of Per Pintaric, draws influences from 90s jungle and techno, Baltimore club, ballroom sounds and their eerie, personal dreamscape.
Pouch Envy’s club tracks strive to bend the idea of genre and leave much to the listener’s imagination and interpretation. Per’s alter ego allows him to engage with his lived experiences in a more mysterious way and dig through unexplored sides of himself. By experimenting with quick changes in BPMs, melodic ideas and genre, their production and mixes relate to the same sensibilities as Gen Z—fast-paced, undefined and suitable for the diminished attention span that digital life has brought to the younger generations. Pouch Envy made his debut at Bossa Nova Civic Club this year and has since been producing throughout the quarantine. Per’s production has spanned from experimental hip-hop and shoegaze rock to classical movie scores, though his alter ego finds himself deep within the dance realm.

The release is accompanied by three remixes from Barcelona based producers: @antidronesquad(who have recently released their debut EP 'Pax Digitalis' on Sin Hilo), @4ire (with releases on Glacial Industries) and @top74.

Having previously released a slew of tapes on labels such as Clan Destine Records and Live Adult Entertainment, Penelope’s Fiancé lands on Hypermedium for his vinyl debut. Hailing from Stavroupoli, Thessaloniki, Penelope’s Fiancé has been keeping over the past few years a fast pace of work, constantly producing tracks and releasing new music, having shaped a unique sound that drifts across the borders of lo-fi, post-industrial and fuzzy techno. The Cutting Edge Of A Knife is the culmination of all these previous excursions, a solid display of his ability to craft emotionally intense tracks, merging a ghostly, gloomy grandeur with squelching percussive patterns.
