We are proud to present the fifth instalment of the Pal’s compilation, with talent from across the globe, coming together to create a collection to soundtrack these strange days.

First up, Aural Trace sets the scene with the slow burning celestial soundscapes of ‘Melange’, where choral overtones curl up snuggly along the drum machine, fusing organic and mechanics.

The influence of the Cologne School seeps through every pour of M Love’s ‘Oboda’ with warm analogue melodies oozing throughout. 
Churning distorted guitars twist between the throbbing tribal drums of Mufti’s 'Fascinatio'.

Marzian’s 'Conversaciones Delirantes' pulls us through a psychedelic shapeshifting bass heavy prism of sound. Sharp stabs cut through the bass on Flvn’s ‘Yule’, no mistake, this could soundtrack a slasher movie in-spite of its festive title.

Leo af Ekenstam’s ‘Stress’ carries a tense, yet driving groove punctuated by nervous guitars and shady atmospherics. 

A bubbling bit-crushed low end permeates Montessori’s 'Speed Dating’s dark EBM tinged muscular workout.

Stockholm Syndrome teams up with Lusca to craft a pumping retro synth infused stomper which twists and jitters from the opening bars to the last refrain.

Cabizbajo and Colossio also combine their production talent to create the cavernous feedback driven echofest of ‘Ley’ with twisted arpeggios and animal like sounds dancing in and around the drums.

Manner of Speaking play out with ‘the Unknown’, a brooding instrumental downtempo track which strikes a literal and figurative chord with the collective consciousness this past year.

Russian Dark Disco Syndicate Oberwave is back with another thrilling VA release to celebrate their anniversary. The volume 4 of their compilation series, as usual, gathers a plural concoction of skilled artists from different corners of our crazy and doomed world: Etane (St. Petersburg), Durand (Córdoba) (SXDNS079), Peaces (Jakarta), PVLOMO (Torreon) (SXDNS098), Ruksby (Moscow) (SXDNS256), and Хеrоsоrex (Milan) brought their characteristic soundscapes together and provided an interesting EP clad in darkness and lustiness.

The track we were solicited to premiere comes from the creative mind of Durand, whose previous works appeared on vital labels such as Nein, Esthétique, Logical, Factor City, and Latido. Combining his EBM, Industrial, and Electro influences, the Spanish producer, once again, showcases his production resourcefulness by delivering a hell of a track to the compilation.

“E.N.S.” roughly stands for “electronic NASA music” and carries an aggressive and intense atmosphere, full of elements that, together, trigger that wild desire of dancing to it loud in a packed and filthy basement somewhere/anywhere along with friends and strangers feeling that unique sensation of unity that only music provides. A bouncing bassline accompanied with trippy synth leads plus ominous vocal hooks (which are original NASA recordings combined with scream samples) result in a theme that, in our humble opinion, is one of the highlights of the EP.

PREMIERE #1045 | Sex Kino - Scream In The City (Tiempo De Maldad Remix) [HEARec] 2020

Hermano Poulper (SXDNS146) makes his debut on the beloved German label Emerald & Doreen, curated by The Robot Scientists (SXDNS028), with a gripping 6-track EP: Two beautiful originals and four enthralling remixes provided by some of the finest artists of the so-called Indie Dance/Dark Disco scene: “Ciclo” receiving an interesting indie version by French Id!r (Mange Moi Records) and a minimal interpretation by Argentinian DJ Braver (Maleza Records); and “Consecuencias” deriving a percussive, organic and weird interpretation by Argentinian Martin Noise (SXDNS143/Playground Records) and a space rock-ish version by Mexican Corresponsal (Maleante Records). 
 
We chose the latter to review, and it is a bomb, peeps! Corresponsal revisioned “Consecuencias” and branded it with his characteristic style, faithful to his Mexican roots, yes, but taking the theme to a journey through a cosmic reality, adding a robotic vocal and laser-like FXs influenced by science fiction series, resulting in a compelling retro-futuristic sonority.

M Love, Aura Nox, Corresponsal & Globemaster (SXDNS153) Feat. Born Loco, Mverto Futura, Morze (SXDNS151), Etane, ONDA AVITAL, Javier Ferreira, Diaz Tech (SXDNS089), and GUYD (FREEDL011) did what they know best: Darkness-and-groove infused tracks devoted to triggering emotions and sensations that only the Oberwave-ish trademark sonority (aka cold and macabre music to be danced till your bones break) is capable of.

The track we were solicited to review and premiere – cooked with love and mezcal by rising stars Corresponsal & Globemaster featuring Born Loco on the vocals – was born and raised in Mexico before crossing half of the world and finding its home in Russia. One of the highlights of the release shows its credentials from the very beginning: The almighty and bouncing bassline introduces the theme as if it were saying, “That’s it, I’m a f*cking banger, play me at peak time when it is allowed, cabron!”. The caliente Spanish lyrics help to set the climax and bring a proper amount of Latin mood to the gelid release.
