In late 1984, after his disco track I'm The Terminator was rejected (along with a memorable nut-punch from the producer), Billy Noknees couldn’t let it go. Determined to prove he could deliver a track for The Terminator, he returned to the studio with a fresh idea: Mighty Metal Machine, a laid-back soul track with smooth, jazzy undertones—a complete departure from anything remotely suitable for a high-octane, sci-fi action film.

With a relaxed bassline, gentle synths, and a groove better suited to a sunset lounge than a battle with killer robots, Mighty Metal Machine came to life. The lyrics, delivered in Billy’s signature croon, painted a dreamy portrait of a “Mighty metal machine” While Billy saw it as an innovative, introspective take on the Terminator’s inner life, the studio executive was less than impressed.

When Billy triumphantly played the track, the executive reportedly listened in silence, his face slowly transforming from mild confusion to barely contained laughter. As the song faded, he burst out laughing, letting Billy know in no uncertain terms that Mighty Metal Machine had missed the mark—again.

Rejected once more, Mighty Metal Machine was quietly stashed away, considered a lost piece of OBIISSS lore, until a dusty copy was found in 1998 in the back of a pawn shop in a seedy part of Los Angeles. It was still in its original sleeve—a simple black background with the legend "Mighty Metal Machine", looking more like a metal bands cover than the soul ballad it contained.

Now, finally remastered with the magic of AI, Mighty Metal Machine is presented in all its unexpected glory—a soul track that Billy imagined would become an iconic movie theme but instead became a quirky piece of lost music history.
