Following the immediate success of the first two releases on A&R Edits, issued side by side back in May, comes the third instalment, a split 12” with transatlantic reworks served up by the UK’s Sophie Lloyd and the USA’s F.A.M.E. collective.

First up under the re-edit razor is Herb Alpert's 'Rise', a track that reached number one on the US chart upon its release in 1979, making Alpert the first (and only) artist to reach Billboard’s Hot 100 with a vocal ('This Guy's in Love with You', 1968) as well as an instrumental performance. ‘Rise’ was also famously played on import by DJ’s on the UK Jazz-Funk scene at 45rpm (rather than the correct speed, 33rpm). In 1997, the track found a new lease of life when sampled by Sean 'Puffy' Combs, becoming the instrumental bed for Notorious B.I.G.'s hip-hop classic, 'Hypnotise'. Now, 16 years on, London-based producer and DJ Sophie Lloyd breathes fresh life into this infectious groove, crafting a timely dubbed-out rework that's been a highlight of Greg Wilson's sets this summer.

On the flip, the Detroit collective F.A.M.E. don their disco guise for 'Love Making Love 2 U', an edit of the cult 1981 Boogie cut, ‘I Love Makin Love To You’ by Mel Sheppard, another choice tune for Wilson this festival season. The edit first came to his attention when he went to Detroit in June to play the Movement Festival Appreciation Party at the TV Lounge and, during the afternoon soundcheck, heard DJ Mike Petrack playing it. After enquiring, Mike gave Greg a copy, which he played that night to great response. It was also at this same event that he first played Sophie’s ‘Rise’ edit: Gregwilson – Movement-appreciation-party-tv

So both tracks, with their Detroit connection and raw-edge in common, seemed a solid combination for an A&R release.

AND003 is released on Monday 14th October on 180g vinyl.

A few years ago I stumbled across these amazing recordings by Waq Takahashi - disco tracks, recorded properly, with musicians and stuff. I was pretty blown away with them. So I asked if I could remix some. Which I did. Then I lost the files. Then I forgot. Then I did other stuff. Then I found one of the sessions I'd been working on by complete accident. And I forgot how good this stuff is. So I finished it. Went to tape. The lot. And now it's coming out on a limited edition 12" single.

Dinky Di - Gold Wave - Al Kent Remix

Canadian disco alert!  This one needed an edit imo.  You can find this record for cheap on ebay or discogs or in the bins.  Sweet funk groove, definitely inspired by the likes of Peter Brown.  Chorus is definitely not for me.  Looped up my favorite parts and did some light re-drumming.  This worked really well in a particular hollywood basement venue last couple years.  Be sure to check out the B-side  "I'll Be Good to You" on this 12" as well.  Good one
