Hey there Ochtone, I got this from the compilation and listened to it a lot while I was working as a drover in the Australian outback. One time it was dusk and I was on my horse gently urging the cattle to where they would break for the night, in a contemplative mood and this song came on. It was something really special, so thanks.

This track is part of the Sublimated Sounds 'Sounds of the past' compilation album. The whole idea was for us to take tunes that were popular back in the 1990s (so I was only young, not even in double figures) and put a modern day / our own spin on them. I went with one of the few tracks I actually could remember; Children by Robert Miles. 

This is not the first remix of this tune I've done. In fact it was the first tune I'd ever played with or made electronically when I first tried my hand at Dubstep around 2008. Search in on Youtube if you want, 'Robert Miles - Children (speedy's Dubstep remix)'. IT'S TERRIBLE, but hey we've all got to learn somewhere. So for me this was not only visiting a tune from my childhood, but seeing how much I'd improved from the first tune I gallantly tried to rehash.

I really wanted to get that deep bass vibe in to this remix. Originally I'd started with an all garage beat, no half rhythms at all, but eventually I came to the conclusion that there was so much more I could do with a solid 1 2 3 4, than a swinging rhythm, after all, the tune was originally techno, to try and swing the drums and melody would completely distort it's background. 

The speech over the top of the music comes from Maya Angelou's inaugural poem to Bill Clinton, read in 1993. I've been looking to place this powerful piece in to a track for far too long and it made so much sense to for me to put this poem from the past in a song from the past (if that makes sense). It worked really well for me, and a lot of the rhythms in Maya's reading were spot on with the music, requiring little to no editing rhythmically. A powerful speech for an originally powerful song (I'll let you be the judge of whether I've retained it within my version).
