“Whether it is traditional or contemporary, we need to be authentic,” says @altinkasetcilik who performs as Anadol.“I don’t claim that I am authentic, but this is what I want to achieve.” A sense of authentic exploration, introspection and celebration coats every inch of Anadol’s latest album. After 2019’s Uzun Havalar, the Turkish artist returns with an album that continues to explore a variety of deeply embedded musical traditions while also hurtling into new terrain. The music and influences – as well as the history, culture and geography behind them – that make up Atila as an artist all coalesce to create something entirely new. The result is something that is simultaneously exploring history and tradition, while harnessing innovative modern sounds and techniques.“If there is any tradition I am somehow connected to, or influenced by, then it’s multi-genres,” she says. “Such as Turkish Pop and Arabesk music from this country where I grew up.There is a connection to Folk and also French pop or Flamenco, Middle Eastern melodies and orchestration, Greek adaptations, Kenny G. solos, American guitars.” (Pingipung). @andiotto: When we founded Pingipung as a collective 20 years ago, we were influenced by what was called Electronica at the time. A playful, experimental, curious approach to electronic music production which sounded much more interesting to us than the sterile minimal techno which was so hyped back then. Big shout out to the labels who we loved then, and still love today: Karaoke Kalk, City Centre Offices, Sonig, ~scape, Warp Records, Thrill Jockey, Morr Music, Ghostly … (sadly some are no longer with us).

Que Sakamoto (@que-sakamoto) is a DJ and producer who has become Japan’s latest export to the world. Fusing Japanese and European folk music with disco, Que Sakamoto has created a unique electronic sound which has spread across the globe. From his deep roots in the Tokyo underground, he finds himself outside Japan most of the year on his relentless tours of Europe, Asia, Australia and the Americas. Back home in Tokyo, he is leading the Nu Disco scene in Japan as a founding member of Huit Etoiles.

Andi Otto is one of the co-founders of the German Pingipung label, a steady source of eclectic outernational, dub and electronica sounds for 20 years already. 
For their first Outsiders episode, Andi Otto picks some cherries of the 80 releases strong label catalogue, featuring music by M.RUX, Anadol, Sven Kacirek, F.S.Blumm, Y Bülbül as well as some of his own compositions. 
Andi Otto is a composer, cellist and instrument inventor from Hamburg. His new album “Songs for Broken Ships” together with the South Indian singer MD Pallavi will be released in May 2023 on Pingipung.

Blessed is the feeling here when listening to this celestial and mysterious beauty of a mix by @Pingipung's very own Heiko Gogolin (@heiko-h-gogolin). With an almost shamanic vision he weaves a web of rhythm and melody for many returning listening sessions. The working title fits the vibe so well that we had to keep it.  Steadily growing onme it has been great company for many late night work sessions in the bin HQ and I must really say it best fits the dark and calmer hours of the day - filling these with contemplative energy.

Heiko Gogolin - Growing (Guest Mix, 2023)

It wasn't going to be long before we tried something different here. This time it's me, Angelo Cruzman, linking arms with my friend Jacoby and going for a manic music journey through our record collections. 

The 'In Your Mind Experience' was first trialled on patients at a secret laboratory constructed out of used records while the market took a dip and it was calculated that it was cheaper to build a high grade facility out of vinyl than traditional materials. The results were questionable, but with a little faith and a few more willing pill-poppers we managed to come up with a recipe that we think shows just how mad you think we are. 

If you'd like to sample the goods in more bite-sized formats you can always head over to bandcamp and snack on the "individual" tracks..🧐

My little cousin Sofia also did the artwork. She is mega talented.

Now this is something special: While our mixes normally aim at an average length of one hour, Pingipung artist (Mameen 3) and veteran leftfield selector soFa elsewhere presents almost 3,5 hours of pure joy. Here is what he says himself about this beauty:

"This collection of tracks has been inspired by a psychedelic trip near a lake in Portugal last year. It's meant to be the soundtrack of a sunny and funny afternoon of visual hallucinations and much laughing somewhere near water. Along the way it will also serve a normal day of holidays in the sun. Sip a cocktail near the beach and let yourself fade away with this magic tropical potpourri. Expect oddities from the most diverse corners in time and space."
