Emrat is a stage name and his real name is Maxim. He began his way as a producer in 2008, but in 2019 he decided to change his direction and declared himself in completely different style. He perform and produces music in such genres as Downtempo, Organic House, Deep House, Melodic House & Techno. Emrat has his own unique taste and sense in musical sound, constantly experimenting with mixing different ethnic and electronic musical instruments.

This set was one of the more surreal shows I’ve played. Starting with finding out 3 hours before I was actually playing it…on my birthday…B2B With my good friend @kaicastromusic - I have known Kai Castro for about 6 years now and this is the first time we’ve gotten to play together and it was an absolute blast kicking off my first set of 2022, my Birthday, and my first time playing in Austin with him. Enjoy our 2 hour “Arctic Tundra” Set we played on the Patio of the Concourse Project in 35 degree weather :)

The title track "Spin" gently envelops your spirit in waves of sound with the spicy scent of an oriental bazaar, and at 122 BPM takes you to the mosaic floor in front of the Khalifa's palace for a twilight dance. The second work was "Amman" starts playing only after sunset, when completely different forces begin to appear in the ancient eastern city. The powerful groove of the track, combined with mystical vocals, make you move in an almost religious ecstasy in the light of a crescent moon and stars. Have a nice trip!

London-based style master Hardt Antoine joins the TAU family for our latest audio excursion. The talented founder of record label and party brand Reculture is of French and West Indian descent, and he brings a unique blend of influences to the musical arena. His diverse tastes are channelled into which he refers to as "sexy evolving melodies over deep, dark techno grooves". With release on Innervisions, Kompakt and Exit Strategy, Antoine has demonstrated his production prowess at the highest level. Now landing on TAU with his first full EP for us, the debonair producer continues to build a sterling rep, while gracing dance floors with the perfect balance of contagious rhythms and emotive arrange- ments...

Many People kicks off with 'Many People Dem', a morose cut with a grumbling low end and the rat-a-tat-tat of organic sounding percussion. The atmosphere builds steadily, with numerous elements added to amplify the growing tension. A simple yet mesmerising melody leads us into the breakdown, where a male vocal appears. We then drop into the second half, with more of the same exquisite programming.

Up next, TAU bosses Adana Twins bring their own flavours to the pot, cooking up a delicious rework of 'Many People Dem'. Their retrofuturist take on the track pumps it full of optimism, with a glittering melody and upbeat rhythms. The vocal gets put through a FX machine, and the breakdown will transport you into the outer regions of space. Are you ready for take off?

Then we have 'Oktagon', a brooding cut that feels taut and insular when it first opens up. As the track progresses, soothing pad work adds depth and emotion. Delicate build up is utilised skillfully as Hardt Antoine adds more and more layers, until the track is ready to pop around the two and a half minute mark. From that moment, it's a sonic adventure, with a symphony of synthesisers and beats taking us on a ride into the unknown. What we do know is that, wherever we're going, it feels oh so good to be travelling there...

Finally, 'NoName' closes the EP. Hardt once again shows off his flair for drum programming on this cut, with distinct rhythmic expression throughout. This cut feels a little more laid back than the others, meandering along with a hypnotic melody and its unusual arrangement adding character. It's organic techno with a confident outlook and a meaningful impact.

Freshness all round here from Hardt Antoine, as TAU continues to deliver electronic music with soul, groove and originality all the way... Magnifique.

PREMIERE: Hardt Antoine - Oktagon (Original Mix) [TAU]

James Harcourt makes a welcome return to ICONYC. The English producer has had a prolific and hugely successful year. Releases on Siamese, Sum Over Histories, Renaissance and Sincopat have all been standouts while a memorable gig at the infamous Noisily tops a healthy tour schedule. Now as 2023 continues at a fast pace, James Harcourt lands back on ICONYC with a brand new two track EP.

The Harcourt sound is a tough thing to pin down. He is a unique act in the sense that emotionally his creations carry quite a large scope. He is not afraid to explore esoteric or introspective themes and the end result is always a compelling one. Such is the case with 'Awakening' which carries many of his most loved production hallmarks. From a warm, meaty low end to icy atmospherics and an effects storyboard to get lost in, there is certainly a lot to like. The main break is perhaps the high point, with the mood shifting from emotive to ominous with an effortless ease. It's something you rarely see and they've pulled it off beautifully here.

The companion piece 'Klug' is equally impressive, coming in with more drive and a darker feel overall. Once again, the storyboarding is unique, never quite doing what your brain thinks it will. Undisturbed and composed from an atmospheric perspective yet still with enough power and momentum to work remarkably well on the dance floor. Based around three synth motifs, one of which opens up dramatically during the main break, makes for a kaleidoscopic journey to round out the release in style. James Harcourt continues to be one of the undergrounds most sought after acts with this EP only adding to that sentiment. Highly recommended.

'Rigpa' hits the second those strings sashay into the blend, swooning and gliding over their signature low 'n' slow beat. Timeless in its sense of emotion and euphoria, stately in the way it unfolds, it's another precision heart-melter from Sammy and Adrian. 

'Dharma' flips for a contrast experience. A drum-focused affair laced with tribal intricacies and more majestic synth tones entering mid way, there's a latent sense of drama that pays off gradually, hypnotically, spiritually…
