Cockatoos are some of the best-loved birds in the parrot family. Although perhaps the most recognisable is the yellow-crested variety, cockatoo species come in a multitude of shapes, sizes and colours. Universally they are known for their quirky, sassy characters and tendency to shriek. In the wild cockatoos gather in noisy, colourful, boisterous flocks, much like human festival-goers. When kept as pets they’re engaging, intelligent and entertaining company, and videos of them singing, dancing and mimicking their owners fill the internet. Sadly their popularity as domestic companions has fuelled illegal capture and trade of many cockatoo species - one of the biggest threats they face. Cockatoos are also completely dependent on trees as their nesting sites, so are extremely vulnerable to deforestation and habitat loss across the whole Australasian region. All bird species need protecting to help preserve earth's biodiversity - thats why we will donate all proceeds to Greenpeace.
