“BASS DOWN, MASK UP- Breakbeat United Vol.18” is a 2.5hr mix featuring a 65 track journey through 2020 Breaks. This live, one-take recording is something I have been planning and working on since late last year and I couldn’t be more excited to share it with you. Packed with more BOOM & BASS than your dancing shoes can ever funk to, this is officially the longest mix in my signature Breakbeat United Series. My inspirado came from how much fun it was doing my 3 hour long “Quarantine Boom” Twitch shows during most of the 2020 pandemic. Those experiences made me realize how much I enjoy longer and deeper sets, but they only featured classic music from my back catalogue. Since all live shows were canceled because of Covid-19, I found myself with no creative outlet for my desire to play “NEW” Breaks released during 2020, so this project was born. “Bass Down. Mask Up” is a combination of that newfound love for the “long set” but with new music and my signature style of aggressive harmonic mixing. With an emphasis on the flow and vibe, this set is sure to delight the senses and please even the most fickle of Breakbeat fans! It’s also guaranteed to make any BBU vet giddy with BASS! Strap in for a ride you will not soon forget!

Rennie Pilgrem’s contribution to the early Nuskool Breaks scene is outstanding and is often considered responsible for the creation of the Nuskool Breaks genre. Before moving into breaks Rennie produced techno and acid house and was part of the influential rave group Rhythm Section along with Ellis Dee. Rennie is also the boss of Thursday Club Recordings aka TCR a label which he founded in 1993. TCR records was a major force in the Nuskool Breaks scene.

Lanx and Nick Slater, aka the Drumattic Twins, have been a leading force in dance music since they first began touring over 20 years ago. Making their name as Shades of Rhythm, they ruled the early nineties rave scene with legendary anthems ‘Sweet Sensation’, ‘Sound of Eden’, ‘Extacy’ and ‘Homicide’ and performed with the likes of The Prodigy and N-Joi.

Since rebranding themselves as the Drumattic Twins in 1997, Nick and Lanx quickly replicated this global notoriety thanks to the massive hit tracks ‘Feelin Kinda Strange’ ‘Twister’ and ‘HyperSpeed’. They teamed up with the legendary release platform Finger Lickin Records in 1999 and settled quickly into the close-knit world of the breakbeat scene, working alongside global acts such as Plump DJs, Soul of Man and Lee Coombs.

From a string of releases from 1999 starting with top the selling "Feeling Kinda Strange" till late 2013 with their "Get Up and Dance EP" on Sugarbeat Records and 2 full length albums in between the Drumattic Twins have laid down a variety of music that have influenced the Breaks Scene and shaped it in to what it is today.

Manchesters legendary two room clubnight Tangled returned once again bringing their much loved sounds back to the smiley, sweaty dancefloor. 

This event was also a very special Tangled Breaks 25th Anniversary. The DJ's on the night were resident Steve Thorpe alongside original Tangled Breaks resident Herbie Saccani and the mighty Evil Nine. The night was a huge success and every DJ played an absolute blinder. Steve started the night building from 110bpm mixing familiar cuts with some brand new breaks, then Herbie followed with chunky mix of electro tinged, bass heavy breaks. Tom from Evil Nine then played an awesome 2 hour peak-time set comprising a selection of fresh beats, uncovered gems and Evil Nine classics. Steve finished the night in true style with Tangled Breaks classics uplifting piano infused breaks to end on a high! Smiley faces everywhere!
