While i'm on an Essential Mix rollout what better way to add to the Oldbreaksmixes collection then a 2 hour Essential Mix from the godfather of Breaks, Rennie Pilgrem.

Rennie Pilgrem’s contribution to the early Nuskool Breaks scene is outstanding and is often considered responsible for the creation of the Nuskool Breaks genre. Before moving into breaks Rennie produced techno and acid house and was part of the influential rave group Rhythm Section along with Ellis Dee. Rennie is also the boss of Thursday Club Recordings aka TCR a label which he founded in 1993. TCR records was a major force in the Nuskool Breaks scene.

Evil Nine are an English DJ/Producer duo comprising of members Tom Beaufoy and Patrick Pardy. Gaining recognition after signing to Adam Freelands label Marine Parade in the early 2000's their unique sound gathered a high following and had a very influential effect in the early Nuskool Breaks scene as well as early influences on the later Tech Funk genre.

This mix is from 2004 was made for Australia's Triple J Radio and it's Saturday night weekly show Mix Up.

A RE:CONSTRUCTED set is a *long* way removed from a standard DJ set. Here's how it works.

Simon takes hundreds of tracks from his huge library, painstakingly deconstructs them (using Ai if needed to separate elements from the original tracks), and then pieces everything back together to create a hugely emotive and immersive musical story.

He uses Ableton Live and multiple controllers to trigger up to 16 individual channels of audio at any one time during the performance, and also performs live keyboard overdubs. The end result is a hugely addictive, compulsive and compelling blend of music that's often new, often familiar but always utterly unique.

This is storytelling on a giant canvas, and in 2024 we will be adding visuals and further live instrumentation to these RE:CONSTRUCTED sets.

Finger Lickin Records were the home to many great Breakbeat artists and DJs. Started back in 1998 by Justin Rushmoore and Jem Panufnik (known collectively as Soul of Man) they were at the forefront innovating the breaks scene with new music and artists, selling a pile of vinyl records throughout the year 2000 and onwards.
