This is a recording of my recent opening set for A.Skillz at Sub Rosa with Dojo Entertainment. I was stoked to have an opportunity to switch things up a bit with a breaks/funk/house set and I can't get enough of this mix. The music and dancefloor vibes were off the hook all night so hugs to everyone who made it out and danced their asses off.

The original idea was to post this around my birthday in March, after getting about halfway through I realized March wouldn't happen because... well, I was only about halfway through. I parked it to focus on other things. Then came incredibly sad news about friend and Space Cowboy, Danny. He was always a fan of the BBQ sets, and frequently asked when I'd get to another. Yesterday was Danny's birthday, so I carved out time and finished it up. Not perfect, but long af, and hopefully suitable for BBQing. RIP Danny, hope he bumps this at the big grill in the sky.

I had an absolute blast playing, and I can officially check “DJ a roller rink” off the bucket list.

Goodgroove Records and it's artists really began the era of Ghetto Funk and Slim Goodgroove himself started the Ghetto Funk brand along with another partner Will Lardner who back in the day also had a Nu Skool Breaks label called Streetwise Records. This mix from the now famous Featurecast is a showcase of some of the Goodgroove Records releases from back in the day, expertly mixed and still holds up today stylewise in the Funky Breaks scene.
