As the saying goes "Let's Take It Back To The Old School"

After getting some inspiration listening to some very early Adam Freeland mixes i though i would head down the path of putting some Ableton mixes together of the very early Nu Skool Breaks & Breaks sounds. So i went on my way researching and finding some very early Breaks tracks from the years 1997 to 2001 which can be kind of annoying as online stores don't necessarily put tracks in correct release date order. This is Volume 1 of "Old Breaks Mixes", i hope you enjoy the listening journey. x :)

This new mix showcases the sound I hear in my head when I think about a beautiful hybrid of breakbeat, techno and electro. It's also representative of the kind of Elite Force sets you'll hear from me in the live arena, as I return to the fray in 2023 after a four-year absence!

To craft a mix that had the exact feel I was looking for, I used 24 tracks in some shape or form, pulling many of them apart, rearranging them and adding liberal ly from my own extensive sample library. This set includes 11 Elite Force VIP edits, several acapellas / acidapellas and lashings of breakbeat-techno-electro love.

25 Years Of Finger Lickin' With Justin Rushmore - 13.04.2023

This set was first performed on January 1st 2024 in San Francisco at the Breakfast of Champions block party on the Space Cowboys main stage.

A RE:CONSTRUCTED set is a *long* way removed from a standard DJ set. It's a live/hybrid set.

Simon takes hundreds of tracks from his huge library, painstakingly deconstructs them (using Ai if needed to separate elements from the original tracks), and then pieces everything back together to create a hugely emotive and immersive musical story.

He uses Ableton Live and multiple controllers to trigger up to 16 individual channels of audio at any one time during the performance, and also performs live keyboard overdubs. The end result is a hugely addictive, compulsive and compelling blend of music that's often new, often familiar but always utterly unique.

Breakbeat Breakfast Reconstructed - Jan 2024

This is an Ableton studio mix.

Continuing my series, I dumped a whole lot of breaks tunes that have been sitting on my hard drives for the last 20 years or so into the program Mixed In Key and made my way from Key 1A compiling a breaks mix while trying to find the best tunes possible.

A lot of classics, obscure and harder to find tracks are in this mix, all edited to create the best beats possible. Hope you enjoy the mix, it's quite a journey ! x :)

This week, I worked with the Drum Rack and Drum Buss of Ableton Live 12. I didn‘t create any new instruments, but I did load sixteen samples into an empty Drum Rack. These samples are of historical significance and were created by Tom Dissevelt and Dick Raaijmakers in the 1960s at the Philips NatLab. Philips wanted to explore whether there was a market for electronic music at the time and invited Dissevelt and Raaijmakers for this purpose. This eventually led to the creation of the first LP in the Netherlands made entirely with electronic instruments. This week‘s scale is C Lydian Augmented.
