“BASS DOWN, MASK UP- Breakbeat United Vol.18” is a 2.5hr mix featuring a 65 track journey through 2020 Breaks. This live, one-take recording is something I have been planning and working on since late last year and I couldn’t be more excited to share it with you. Packed with more BOOM & BASS than your dancing shoes can ever funk to, this is officially the longest mix in my signature Breakbeat United Series. My inspirado came from how much fun it was doing my 3 hour long “Quarantine Boom” Twitch shows during most of the 2020 pandemic. Those experiences made me realize how much I enjoy longer and deeper sets, but they only featured classic music from my back catalogue. Since all live shows were canceled because of Covid-19, I found myself with no creative outlet for my desire to play “NEW” Breaks released during 2020, so this project was born. “Bass Down. Mask Up” is a combination of that newfound love for the “long set” but with new music and my signature style of aggressive harmonic mixing. With an emphasis on the flow and vibe, this set is sure to delight the senses and please even the most fickle of Breakbeat fans! It’s also guaranteed to make any BBU vet giddy with BASS! B-Roll Winter Breaks

After seeing my Classic Breakbeat Vol.1 mix reach over 16000 plays a few months ago, I knew it was time to pull my finger out and do another one. Thanks to everyone for supporting Vol.1—this new mix is for you.

I went back to the drawing board for this one and decided to approach this mix slightly differently than the first mix. Vol.1 was a nod to the smooth mixing style of Kid Kenobi, who 100% got me into breakbeat back in the day. Vol.2 alternatively is a peak time festival-mashup set, designed to take you on a ride from start to finish. As well as getting to include more classic breaks tracks I missed on Vol.1, I made an effort to slot in a lot of festival anthems from the same era of dance music (roughly 2004-2010).

So here it is, well over three months of work collecting lost music, sampling, listening to old mixes and searching for forgotten gold. I'm stoked how it turned out and I hope you will be too.

So it recently dawned on me that this year marks 10 years since I had my first support gig at Ambar back in 2006 playing before Dopamine – 10 bloody years!!
Since then music has taken me all over Australia and overseas and allowed me to connect with people all over the world that would have never been possible had it not been for our mutual interest in music.
So I think it’s about time I did a mix paying tribute to that awesome time in my life – the gigs/parties/after parties/boat parties and festivals.
Flashing back to 2004 – 2006 I couldn’t get away without paying respect to Kid Kenobi who single handedly got me and most of the people I know into Djing at the time. 
I learnt to mix by listening to his breaks mixes on repeat. 
So this mix is as much a tribute to him as it is to the talented artists included in it.

To me the Plump DJs were the leaders in the early Nuskool Breaks scene back in the 2000's, leading the way with new and  innovative tunes with tight DJ mixes of some very underground music at that time. Lee Rous and Andy Gardner make up the duo that is the Plump DJs with over 20 years experience in the game, they are still touring and producing great music till this day.

This mix was an exclusive for Triple J Radio Australia back in December 2007.

With over 2 decades experience as a DJ and Producer Deekline has cemented himself in Breakbeat folklore with a huge back catalogue of music and mixes that can be heard and seen all over the interwebs. With early collaborations with his sidekick and friend Wizard releasing a full album called "Breaks, Beats and Blondes" on Botchit & Scarper Records in 2004. Another one in 2009 and 2 mix compilations.

Nowadays with tracks such as Got to Believe, Deepa and jungle anthem Good to Have the Feelin, with the legendary Tippa Irie, have picked up play and support from DJs such as MistaJam and Annie Mac, on Radio 1 and 1Xtra. Deekline is still doing the EDM business to this day, touring, making music and taking care of the label Hot Cakes.

Lanx and Nick Slater, aka the Drumattic Twins, have been a leading force in dance music since they first began touring over 20 years ago. Making their name as Shades of Rhythm, they ruled the early nineties rave scene with legendary anthems ‘Sweet Sensation’, ‘Sound of Eden’, ‘Extacy’ and ‘Homicide’ and performed with the likes of The Prodigy and N-Joi.

Since rebranding themselves as the Drumattic Twins in 1997, Nick and Lanx quickly replicated this global notoriety thanks to the massive hit tracks ‘Feelin Kinda Strange’ ‘Twister’ and ‘HyperSpeed’. They teamed up with the legendary release platform Finger Lickin Records in 1999 and settled quickly into the close-knit world of the breakbeat scene, working alongside global acts such as Plump DJs, Soul of Man and Lee Coombs.

From a string of releases from 1999 starting with top the selling "Feeling Kinda Strange" till late 2013 with their "Get Up and Dance EP" on Sugarbeat Records and 2 full length albums in between the Drumattic Twins have laid down a variety of music that have influenced the Breaks Scene and shaped it in to what it is today.
