The Funk Hunters 2014 SHAMBHALA MIX

Featuring interviews with the Plump DJ's & Freestylers.
This is the music that really took me around the globe and people associate Krafty Kuts with. For me some, of the most exciting and fresh sounding music has been with the breakbeat scene over the years. Playing to 40,000 people at the Exit Festival, headlining shows across Australia & New Zealand to big Festivals in the UK & Europe, USA & Canada. So many great artists have been a part of the Breaks scene ie. Freq Nasty, Plump DJ's, Stanton Warriors, Adam Freeland, Evil 9, DJ Icey, Deekline, Prodigy, Meat Katie, Chemical Brothers, Fatboy Slim, Rennie Pilgrem, Soul Of Man, Squarepusher, Pendulum, DJ Zinc & many more are all featured in this podcast. This was a trip down memory lane and I remember watching people lose there mind to so many of these tunes over the years and it's really good to see the Breakbeat scene still flourishing once again.

When it comes to record labels in the golden era of Breakbeat music, Fat! is up there as one of the most consistent, original and standard setting on the global scene... Along with their legendary night 'Chew the Fat' at the End in London, the label pioneered a sound in music that will live forever in the souls of ravers all over the world. 

Luminary artists such as Foamo, Maribou State, Bondax and Baobinga (Sam Binga) and many others passed through the label in its earlier years and created a sound that was rooted in club culture and helped evolve the diverse Bass & Breakbeat sound.

The very first releases featured the likes of Peacemaker, The Apollo Kids, Merka, Tayo & Kickflip releasing tunes and remixes on the label that will live in Breakbeat folklore.... This is what we are here to celebrate! Re-mastered, re-uploaded, and re-presented for you to re-live your heady days of the naughtys! Fat! Records are proud to present to you Fat! Breaks Vol 1. 

Taking a snap shot of the labels earliest highlights from its Breakbeat beginnings, these tunes represent a time in music when influences were flying around like model spitfires at a Saturday morning remote control plane meeting in the park. Techno, early Grime, Garage, Drum & Bass, House, were all being fused into a cohesive melee of breaks and basslines which captured the essence of everything that was fresh and new in the club and dance music at the time, whilst giving a nod to the past with a sprinkling of Disco, old skool Hip Hop and Jungle. 

Fat! has since progressed onto releasing some of the finest House, techno and pop infused dance music in the past decade, but its former years will always have a special place in the hearts and minds of many.

To round off the package, Fat! has enlisted the help of Breakbeat believers and 2 of the eras top DJ's, Terry Atomic Hooligan and Jay Cunning to blend this bunch of classics into an hour long mix thats reminiscent of their many sets at Chew The Fat!

I Just had such a cracking weekend just gone at the wickerman festival, (with the LOT49 crew & many good friends who i really don't see enough of). 
  
  Following that, I came into work this morning feeling all inspired and up for it and managed to nailed a new DJ mix straight off, (i rarely do promo mixes..... I just don't have the patience, as i tend to do them live and often mess them up and get frustrated :) but today has been a good day and this one came out pretty well (IMHO) so feel free to download and share...... This summer we were blessed with the opportunity to premiere our brand new 4-turntable Audio Visual show at Canada's legendary Shambhala Music Festival! 100% of our set was accompanied with live synchronized handcrafted visuals content and nearly all of the remixes, samples, and acapellas you hear within this mix were first turned into video files and then played live during our set on Friday night in The Fractal Forest.

Their name was taken from a manhole cover, made by Stanton Ironworks, which seemed fitting with their style of underground, cutting edge music.

This mix is from the era of Nuskool Breaks and produced for Breezeblock radio show back in 2001.

Two of the heavy weight artists that took the breaks movement to the next level would have to be Rennie Pilgrem and BLIM. Rennie considered the godfather of breaks and BLIM with his own unique style as a producer. Both artists providing various anthems over the years and both pushing the sound of breaks to the masses. Where BLIM is these days i do not know but Rennie is back in the studio producing a new album during the lockdown and believe it or not he is releasing it on the legendary TCR Records.

This mix was recorded live at the Breakspoll Awards back in 2005 and it has Rennie & BLIM going back to back with also the vocal talents of MC Chickaboo.
