I took the train down to Dalston in the rain, 
Stumbled out the overground station, 
Walked into the nearest bar, 
That’s where I saw you pulling pints, 
Talking to the locals in that shoegaze band,

I joked that I took my seat at the front row of your show,
You asked me to stay there with you until the curtains closed

Then we played pool until 2am at the club,
Until they rang that dreaded last orders bell,
We talked endlessly about university, you were dropping out, 
I said well 'a degree is just a piece of paper anyway', so they say

After that night, then we went our separate ways, 
but these days I still see you around in Dalston, 
So at least there's one friendly face
