@Forbidden-cuts is a fresh subsidiary of parent imprint @Discotexas. Based in Lisbon, Portugal, the new sub-label has a strict no nonsense dance floor policy when it comes to their releases with tunes that can 'touch both your heart and your hips'.

The label's third release brings back Hamburg-based, Portuguese mystery kid @omanata for a quick followup EP. Prior to exploring the current 'moodier, vibrant and exotic sound' as Oma Nata, the young producer explored various musical genres. International influences are in abundance on this three track EP in the form of samples from rather jazzy sources as well as some Latin American leanings.

Our premiere and the title track "Alone Together" takes some moody piano chords and merges them with some shuffling shakers, latin percussion and a steady house beat. Some samba crowd samples appear underneath while twinkling jazzy keys help brighten the mood. A breathy flute takes centre stage as the groove comes into full swing, perfectly blending both jazzy and Brazilian elements into one entwined, coherent sound.

Hypersex is a collective love letter to the club culture. We believe we can dance our way to a better world. A world with room for everyone, regardless of their origin, political views, race, religion, gender, and sexuality.
Much like hypertext is a system designed to multiply connections between ideas, “Hypersex” was designed to multiply connections between people. It’s also a metaphor for the dancefloor: a place where, throughout history, we came together and created something new.
When I started working on it in 2016, an unprecedented refugee crisis was happening and Europe was turning its back on it. In the US, a massacre had just taken place in a gay nightclub in Orlando and the country was getting ready to elect Donald Trump. I had to respond. So I reached out to like-minded artists I admired, and set out to create my most collaborative project yet.
Hypersex is truly a collaborative effort: it features songs with Fritz Helder, Best Youth, Iwona of Rebeka, Georgia Anne Muldrow, DA CHICK, Marta Ren, Guilherme Tomé Ribeiro, Shermar Davis and Tee Flowers. The artwork is by Bráulio Amado, who I have been working with in all my albums, and whom I involved to the point of naming songs according to his illustration ideas, and not just the usual opposite. Videos were made by filmmakers Bruno Ferreira, Nuno Xico, João Pedro Vale and Nuno Alexandre Ferreira, Paco Cruz and more to come, and also a fanzine with a dozen guest illustrators which we’ll unveil very soon.
The world we live in is getting sadder and grey. We don’t expect to change it with a record, but we might as well add some color to it.

Months ago this singer from North Carolina got in touch, wanting to work with me. I sent him an instrumental. He had co-written a lot of hits, but 'Carnival' would become the very first track he'd actually sing on. I immediately fell in love with Shermar 's voice.

'Taken from his debut album due later this year, 'The Discovery' by Oma Nata follows on from the new jazz-house inspired track Father's Son which closed 2018 for the Portuguese artist.

Dropping on discotexas, The Discovery once again sees him push the boundaries of experimental music blending genres in fine form in what is a more club orientated production. Rich hats carry you through whilst locked tight around a dominant bass line.

This certainly kicks off the road to the album launch in fine form. '

Following the release of his album earlier this year, Oma Nata returns to Discotexas with 'Everything'.

The title track leads the way with icy minimal drum grooves and droning bass line before the lead line arrives, looping effortlessly around the rolling foundations, progressing and evolving from beginning to end. 'Sum Day' then takes you deep into a smokey room, with reverb soaked chords and a muffled kick starting the show. Certainly a more laid back approach, it follows a similar story line to its predecessor, developing with additions of melodic stabs and chugging rhythms.

'Meditation' does exactly as you would expect, closing the collection with an ethereal production driven by a vast selection of instrumentation from woodwind to sitars.
