We premiere today “The Scorpion Sting", an immersive dark wave bomb incorporating Skelesys’ enigmatic vocals and guitar. This is another stellar release from the label and we look forward to more.

Dystopian lucid dreaming… Is this reality? Is this a nightmare? Are we sharing the same dream or are we all part of yours? 

We have no answers. But we do have the perfect soundtrack as Curses’ label Ombra International continue to join the most powerful dots around the world. Somewhere between dark disco and post-punk, it’s the label’s first vinyl release in some time with three debuts and two highlights from the recent Ombra International 17 ‘Destiny’ V/A EP. All things connected, all things unclassifiable, sitting somewhere between Italo, indie, acid house, electro, synthwave and beyond. 

Turkish dynamo Günce Acı takes the lead as she continues to accelerate into the scene with dominance. Her Ombra debut ‘Another Round’ pushes us head first into an acid primordial soup; Trippy, relentless and full of surprises, it’s another sure-fire sign of her exciting rise. 

Elsewhere long-time supporters and good friends of the label Juan MacLean and Hardway Bros also both make their label debuts. The former lays down the deep pulsating sensation ‘Monika’, a sojourn that stretches out over almost 10 minutes of heady, hypnotic bliss. Meanwhile the latter sends us love from his HQ outer space with the industrial strength euphoria bulldozer ‘Early Nineties’. Ploughman beats and cathedral keys, this washes away the bitter aftertaste of lockdown with unfiltered, uncut feels. 

And if that’s not quite enough worldly Ombra substance to fuel your dystopian dreams, then look no further as previous digital-only tracks Skelesys – ‘The Scorpio Sting’ and Jorkes and NIKKNAME – ‘Citizen’ are both revisited on this pivotal release for the label. Timeless music never dates; here’s to another 20 Ombra escapades…

Timothy 'Heretic' Clerkin puts the soup and tweed to one side and goes full Orbital with 'Execute'

Having recently put out music from Bawrut and Ivan Smagghe, Ransom Note Records are back with a new EP from Timothy ‘Heretic’ Clerkin. Home to three dancefloor stormers + one insane remix from Marlon Hoffstadt, the Serenade EP is chock full of breakbeats and gurgling acid lines and twiddly little synth bits.

What do we know about Timothy ‘Heretic’ Clerkin then? Well, we know he’s released on labels including Tusk Wax and Rotters Golf Club, both as Heretic and as one half of Eskimo Twins. We know he was once crowned the fastest barman in West Yorkshire. And we also know two of his great passions in life are soup and tweed. Even in the summer heat.

The latest track from the EP to see the light of day is ‘Execute’, a demolition tool that harks back to the halcyon days of peak Orbital. It’s already been rinsed by the likes of Andrew Weatherall, who closed Panorama Bar with it last month and reportedly tore the roof off.

“I was playing around in the studio with a Fender Rhodes one day”, Timothy explains of the track’s genesis, “putting it through various amps and filters, then resampling it - that's how I came up with the main rave stab riff. As that part is played by hand and quite human, I wanted the rest of the instrumentation to be very mechanical and programmed, which is where the title comes from.”

Goodbye 2020, hello new beginnings.  London's Birds makes her Ombra debut with a dirty post-punk tinged tribute to the late Andrew Weatherall. FREERIDE MILLENIUM cohorts, Jorkes & Nikkname deliver a dystopian manifesto to the citizen's of the renegade and rebel truth. Buenos Aires born, Berlin-based Skelesys returns to the homefront, venturing into an accelerated dark wave bomb incorporating his enigmatic vocals and guitar.  Silicodisco & Madrid's Rotten City Records boss, Alvaro Cabana return to Ombra with a hypnotic kraut-rocktechno vibe. Chilean, Ducati Flux, is 1/2 of the Berlin-based live duo, Random Atlas. With a few tracks already confirmed on Ombra this year, this is his first. A slow and heavy-snared weapon, with a nod to the oldskool turntablist scratch records.  Last in the EP is Belgian's NAUFRAGI. A triumphant return to Ombra, with a super cosmic track, Italo and new wave inspired.
