The EP opens with the title track 'Them Salsa People', a soundtrack to one of those warm and breezy summer nights that tells the tale of dancing to jazz to the old heroes of jazz. 'No Kids, Three Money' follows on the same trail, the deep sunset house vibes is something Dave handles to perfection. Next up we got 'It's A Form Of Art', with it's meandering melodies and blissful chords it sounds very much like something from the classic Paper Recordings era. Last but not least we got 'Church Picnic', it got that feel of something from the classic Italian deep house scene but with Dave's own twist.

The way each track unfolds on this release is pure bliss, this is house that refuse to grow old, just dive in and enjoy!

this mix is dedicated to the best years of house music, when I was a very young DJ full of dreams, when the movement was like a big family, united by the values of brotherhood, tolerance, peace and love.
When there was an air of freedom in the clubs and there were no distinctions of gender or 'race'. When people danced, exchanged smiles and hoped for a better world.
The wish has unfortunately not come true, while we seem to be more and more free to express who we are and what we want, in the world there are new wars, new slaves, poorer and poorer people.
We are living in a society increasingly alienated by the web, more and more people living in an imaginary world, while the strong powers watch us from the window sneering.

Spanish label Mate welcomes Rafa Santos and Franck Roger for a new deep house EP that shows the kids how it's done. It is Santos who serves up the originals starting with 'Where Is The Clubbing?' which has depth but also drive - rich pads swirl about over the supple kicks and clipped vocals bring the soulful little hooks. French maestro Franck Roger remixes with a little more swing and a stripped-back, late-night feel that is sprinkled with cosmic dust. On the flip, 'Smooth Jazz' is just that over cuddly beats as star-gazing piano tinkles and sombre sax notes bring real class. 'Don't Fool Me' shuts down with plenty of Chez Damier-style weight in the kicks and steaminess in the female vocals.

Athens of the North (AOTN) is a label headed by Euan Fryer, a Scottish music aficionado born and raised in Edinburgh. In fact, the name for his label is based on the nickname of his hometown - a city recognized as having a reputation for learning and recalling lost knowledge from the ancient Greeks.

This is an apt name for his imprint since, much like the Scottish of the late 1700s, Euan has been on a mission to honor works of the past. Founded in 2014, AOTN has acquired the rights for vintage soul, funk and disco tracks, and re-issued them to the masses - helping curators draw inspiration from music's not-to-distant golden age.

However, AOTN is simply not just a home for re-issues. The revenue they generate from these releases fund new projects from today's crop of talented artists and musicians. Not a label to chase the latest trends, AOTN prioritizes quality and relies on the timelessness of past melodies to set themselves apart.

Having come out with Andrew Wasylyk's 60's inspired jazz LP Fugitive Light and Themes of Consolation earlier this year, AOTN returns with a brand new record titled Face the Facts. This is a collaborative piece that sees the likes of Linkwood and Other Lands joining forces for the first time. Given both producers' propensity to abide by no particular genre, this was honestly a match made in heaven. Using modular synths as their foundation, Linkwood and Other Lands traverse a myriad of soundscapes that dabble in almost everything - from  80s post-punk to modern dream-pop and down to funk-tinged Balearic disco and more.

Our favorite tune from the 13-track LP is their song "Don't Throw It," which combines Linkwood's expertise on the keys and deep sense of rhythm with Other Lands' hazy vocals and wishful songwriting. This makes for a supremely laidback experience that's akin to watching waves roll onto shore. Although its individual elements are dynamic and even vibrant at times, when grouped together, they flatten each other out in the end - creating a mood that you'll happily allow wash over you.
