He shared a deep friendship with the late Irish philosopher John O’Donohue. They were, David Whyte says, like “two bookends.” More recently, he’s written about the consolation, nourishment, and underlying meaning of everyday words. This is a piano solo piece inspired by situation of isolation due to coronavirus outbreak that is being taken globally. The melody of this piano song fluctuates between sweet and bitter, fear, calmness and uncertainty. It is tender but harmful at the same time.

The Corona Pandemic has taken over the airwaves. We don’t know yet what this thing will end up doing to us, but so far it seems to be really good at bringing anything resembling “business as usual” to a halt. With that in mind, is the corona crisis a horrific affliction or a golden opportunity? Or is it both?
