Are You My Friend

She said: this song started out like many of our songs do...with a cool groove that found its way out of Gary. It had such a cool and positive vibe...and the lyrical idea that we decided to go with was a positive one as well...friendship!  Gary came up with the vocal melodies and sent me the intro with his vocals and lyrics...he asked if I would like to sing along with him as well as write the second verse...what I find so cool, is the cyclical way in which we create. He sent me guide vocals..I sang along with him as well as laid down the second verse...which inspired him to go back to the beginning and re-sing along with me...so we go back and forth and forth and back until you can't really tell where Gary stops and I begin. I also enjoyed creating a bit of piano inspired by the original musical snippet that Gary's sent to me. As always, it was a true pleasure singing along with Gary as I SO much love his voice and those guitars of his!! ...He is such a complete joy as an artist and a person..and it's wonderful to create with someone who is, very much, what this song is all about...a true friend.

He Said: Well we had been between song a bit and I was fussing around with a synth thing and sent it over to Jaime who enjoyed the vibe and came back with a great piano set piece. She does the most amazing piano melodies to my ear, and the idea of friendship came to me and what that means to me. None of us come with a manual and we each have different needs wants and requirements for what this means, and we just wanted to break it down into its simplest forms I think. It deals with the being and having of friendship. I was really blown away with the vocal Jaime came back with and as always its a real pleasure singing, writing and combining our ideas together and she is truly a very dear friend to me :)
