Monument Festival 2022: Dorisburg & Efraim Kent hybrid

For Podcast #165, we’re thrilled to bring you the live recording of F-ON’s opening set from this year’s Paral.lel Festival. 

Paral.lel was, for us, the most nourishing of soul food. Set in the spectacular, breath-taking mountains two-hours north of Barcelona, deep green tree-covered mountains enclosed the dancefloor, an endless stretch of sky reached overhead, a beautiful sound system ensured the frequencies permeated, engulfing us in their warm embrace, and a crowd of beautiful, like-minded souls came together, surrendering to the rhythms and grooves gifted to us by an impressive line-up of talent over 2.5 days.

Magic is almost inevitable when people are united by their shared, deep devotion to music. Throw in nature in its rawest, awe-inspiring form, and of course the music itself delivered with such passion and attentiveness, and you have very raw and real energetic alignment which naturally culminates in countless memorable moments. And it was indeed a weekend of magical moments - where the shadows of clouds sweeping across a canvass of trees aligning the slopes were our only reminder that life and time moved on while we lost ourselves in the mountains.

Esteemed DJ, producer and promoter from Madrid, F-ON (aka Alfonso Pomeda) was on the festival’s opening duties on Friday afternoon, ensuring the warmest of welcomes to the Paral.lel community as they arrived on site. And indeed, his set was as warm and inviting as his smile; deep and down-tempo, with sultry grooves and long, steady, alluring mixes; frequencies gently reverberating off the mountains and trees surrounding us, reaching out and inviting us in. What better way to kick-start a very special weekend celebrating the music we love.

We have now reached the point in the year again where the change of seasons takes place. Winter has officially arrived in the northern hemisphere and some snow has already fallen. For this occasion we invited the labelhead of @midgar_records known as @severja to interpret this transition musically. Besides refreshing sound design and stirring rhythms that wonderfully reflect the autumn sonically, he has also used timbres that make you warm around the heart in the cold season. We are very honored to feature this great storyteller for the current episode.

Vand’s sets are explorations into story-telling hypnotica with a crossover from ambient to dance floor material. With productions released on Nyame Records a double EP collaboration with Bas Dobbelaer on SoHaSo and a solo appearance on F-on’s Alpenglühen. Besides making music and being a deejay he also explored to present himself as a live act in recent years. With adebut at the notable Mostra Festival and a 3-hour live improvisation at La Nature Festival with fellow roommates Shoal and Queniv. He is now mostly affiliated to the ISOTOOP collective transmitting their unique sonic identity.

Clear as spring water, the memory of Shoal's beautiful live set echoing through the Norwegian mountains, finally sharing the stage together at Monument (@monument-podcast) after meeting in Amsterdam several years ago. Those familiar with our dear friends at Harmony Rec (@harmony-rec) will be undoubtedly familiar with Kenny's impeccable body of work, and for the rest an eye-opening treat awaits. Here, Kenny gathers highlights from his recent live sets and newly recorded material, arranged and refined into a perfect contemplation of the crisp arboreal air, a vivid composition of body and sound entwined tightly beneath the earth. Back in April we invited Alfonso to perform an extended set, starting in the early afternoon till sunset.
The outcome was an epic dive, deep into his selection of vinyls, spanning ambient, dub and techno.

I had the absolute pleasure of watching F-on perform this live vinyl set in the beautiful setting at Simbiosis in Seville. As always, he delivered a unique, hypnotic and trance-inducing session yet still fully immersed in his signature touch of deep-techno.
