Captain Hook - The Power Of Now (Talpa & Zyce Remix)

Nuno dos Santos’ boutique label SoHaSo (shorthand for Something Happening Somewhere; although, sadly the same can no longer be said of Trouw) has been cruising steadily for the best part of two years now, but "Tonii" might just be the best thing committed to wax yet. Love Over Entropy's 12m original is sturdy with bright flourishes throughout, forever climbing and searching without resolve; techy without, y'know, being techy. 

This retouch comes from none other than Innervisions' main man, although  less overtly lovelorn than we've come to expect. He  twists the lead melody into something resembling a steel pan drum, backed by laser-guided synths pinging all around: a festival-sized breakdown held just at the precipice, never fully cresting. Dixon, you big tease.

Melbourne’s Lateral takes a more direct route on the first rework, with his pounding mainfloor interpretation perfect for festival sunrises and sweaty clubs alike.

Finally, Canberra’s Doppel leaves behind the lush vibes of his smash hit single Melt on Open, replacing them with twisted effects, swung percussion and a grinding, mechanical groove.

ORD REDE - Alkaline (Doppel Remix)

This gorgeous and haunting piece of minimal, melodic techno from Matt Dwellers first appeared on Techgnosis Vol. III earlier this year, while the initial plans for this remix-focused single/EP go back to mid-2016.  

Label artists Crennwick and Ken Zo put their own progressive tech-focused spin on the track, while newcomer Doppel and special guest Mila Dietrich dive into more deep and tech house territory.

Ariose is the combination of two young Edinburgh-based producers: Sean Liddle and Harry Parker. Having spent the majority of the past five years making music individually, it wasn’t until they joined forces on the Ariose project that they truly found their foothold in the electronic Music scene. Liddle’s musical background is diverse – a talented instrumentalist and DJ with a passion for making music that fills the dance floor, ranging from 2-step and bass music to techno and electro. Parker has always been more focused on producing a variety of melodic techno, trying out different arrangements and time signatures to create tracks that are often glitchy and occasionally quite abstract and ambient. Both artists have always been willing to input the time and meticulous attention to detail in order to come up with a finished product that they, and their listeners, can be extremely happy with.Since deciding to work as a duo, the two have managed to refine their sound to an unusual, yet still dancefloor-friendly, breed of melodic techno. T here is a notable German influence in their music that it still recognisable through their own unique sound.

In East Café and GMJ, two of the industry's most exciting names have forged a musical partnership that has borne fruit in the shape of "22". Included with the original track is a pair of remixes from Israeli and Australian stars. In Gabor Kaszas and Gavin Griffin, the progressive scene has been well represented with a host of high-calibre releases. Hugely successful figures in their own rights having remixed each other on a number of occasions for Clinique and Particles, the duo has come together to create something very special in "22". A typically driving rhythm, combined with intelligently placed offbeat percussion and hi-hat pattern sees a warm and rasping bass line provide the foundation for sumptuous melodies to evolve from the rhythmic precision. With textured pads and gloriously swirling arpeggio providing aural interest and incredible sonic architecture, "22" brings together the very best from the minds and studios of Hungarian and Australian talents.

Returning to Proton Music after the success of his "Recovery" EP in August 2017, Igal Magitman is another icon of the underground dance arena. A mainstay of the scene, his renowned live performances and release catalogue totalling some 300 production credits, has seen original and remix material signed to the likes of Global Underground, Toolroom and Twisted Frequency. A Proton Music career that began with early collaborative work with Brisker, has blossomed into a solo career that saw such renowned releases as "Cleaning Day" and remixes of Cristian R and Andrea Cassino in 2017. Now returning, the Magitman remix of "22" is a strong reworking, centred around huge rhythmic groove and rolling bassline dynamism that is full of dancefloor prowess. Intelligently using the melodic themes of the original and locking them to a tight new groove, the glittering arpeggio of the original makes its presence felt at the breakdown, before emerging again in the third movement with Magitman's plethora of additional production material in full flight.

A 2015 newcomer with a distinctive sound based on "lush soundscapes and twisting melodies", Andrew McMillan has been a revelation with his Doppel soubriquet. Live performances at some of Australia's leading festivals including, Subsonic, and Rabbit Eats Lettuce, have cemented an impressive reputation while a production portfolio has simultaneously blossomed, leading to a range of releases on the likes of Yes Yes and Bassic Records. Moreover, Doppel has been a regular on Australian imprint, Open Records, where "Melt" became a huge success backed by remixes from Jamie Stevens, Thankyou City and Retza. Now debuting on Proton Music, the Doppel remix of "22" is characterised by a strong rolling groove that evolves with intelligently reimagined workings of East Café and GMJ's melodic concepts, melded with a host of original production material and new melodic directions. The central arpeggio theme of the original makes its presence felt and the effects-laden affair brings a strong touch of class to proceedings.

With the dominant "22" turning lofty dreams into reality for East Café and GMJ, remixes from Magitman and Doppel only increase its power.

East Cafe & GMJ - 22 (Doppel Remix)

In music, sampling is the act of taking a portion, or sample, of one sound recording and reusing it as an instrument or a sound recording in a different song or piece.

In this case, Child was on his yearly expedition to Mozambique to learn more about the National animal, the Elephant. He came across a small vinyl shop and an unmarked record that was a little worse for wear but when he heard it, he knew that there was something special that needed to be done with it. So with a very poor internet connect he sent over a sample to Andy (Doppel) which was met with excitement and was urged to spend the 32 cents in purchasing it.

So, after consulting with his bank advisor and being approved for a second mortgage, he bought the master piece and never looked back.

The package is rounded out by classy remixes which don't stray away from using the percussion and vocal elements of the original. Jamie Stevens teams up with The Journey to provide a progressive take on the original with some loose percussion and an arp that lifts the record throughout. Colognes very own Tim Engelhardt rounds out the package with an emotive touch on the original with clever use of horns and a captivating bassline. Tim's production has been a stand out to us for quite a while now and its absolute pleasure to have him join the Ugenius Music Family.

Open Records is a techno, house and electronica imprint based out of the sunny state of Queensland, Australia. Founded in the lush tropical paradise of Cairns in 2007 and now managed out of the bustling metropolis of Brisbane, Open has grown into a respected and prolific label with more than 70 releases from artists in all corners of the globe.

The Open sound is just that. Over the years we have released everything from deep, organic, progressive and tech house, to staunch minimal, hypnotic tribal, driving techno and abstract electronica. What has remained constant is our desire to represent the intelligent, groovy, dancefloor-oriented sound of the Australian festival and party culture, with a little help from our friends around the world, too.

Along the way we've managed to top the Beatport charts, featured in the playlists of some of the world's biggest DJs and radio shows and helped launch the career of some of Australia's most talented artists.
