This is the recording of our gig @ the Fete La Musique 2014 in Hanover.

Open Synth are always live and improvised. Six people jam with hardware equipment and create electronic dance music in the moment for the moment.
No one knows what the other is doing but somehow... they manage it ;)
The wonderful communication through improvisation.

Live played dub techno session with using an Yamaha MT100, Korg Volca Beats, Korg Volca Keys, Behringer DDM 4000 and a TC Electronic M300 effect unit with an additional overdrive stomper. 
Also used a BCR2000 MIDI controller for track fade-ins/outs of the Volca Beats. 

I recorded 4 tracks on the Yamaha MT100, 3 with musical loops and one with the CV click track. The click track is routed to the headphone out and goes straight in the volcas (I use the headphone out to control the volume of the signal cause this is important for the right CV synchronization - you hear around 2:40 that the Volca Beats loses sync and I had to increase the volume of the CV click track).
Also the MT100 is connected to the TC Electronic M300 effect unit as an send effect, before the input of the effect unit I put a really cheap overdrive guitar effect, I like the sound of this combination allot and it gives you some live "coloring" control of the delay which is great for dub techno live improvisations.

Daniel Madlung is half part of Dandytracks. On our Etui Winter Camp 2 and 3 compilations Dandytracks have combined elements of dub and techno with field recording sounds in their Dubstories About Us. Together with his wife Mandy Jordan, Daniel is also running the minimal house label Vekton.

Etui Podcast #17: Daniel Madlung

In the beginning of 2009, born from the wish to present electronic music live, an open stage for live acts was founded in Hannover. An important part of this periodical evening were the joint jam-sessions with the restricion to pure hardware equipment. This was the foundation of the "Open Synth" project.


Open Synth consists of 5 musicians, each one having their own musical background, who have been organizing and creating several projects in Hannover (from parties, decoration & visuals to DJing and live-performances).
Open Synth is always live and always improvised. The musical ideas of every member influence each other and create a new and unique set each time.
