DJ Earl Grey aka Nik Thorup takes us beyond the dancefloor and into the realm of the cerebral. During his month-long residency at Waxflower, Nik spun a cornucopia of captivating and unique records that always left us hungry for more.

We’re still not sure how Nik managed to intertwine so many polarising genres so effortlessly. Few DJs can stroll from ambient to jazz, from folk to dub, making it sound so organic. Maybe there’s a link to be drawn between this kind of musical curation and some of the more adventurous wine-making processes we’ve come to love at Waxflower. Skin-contact wine often leads to bolder, more intense, and less predictable palates. 

Shady wine-making comparisons aside, it was an honour for us to have Nik play for the whole month. We’ve spent plenty of time listening to his recorded sets, so it was a treat to experience his talent live at Waxflower.

Continuing the animix series this week is one of the most passionate and talented musicians I know. Max Santilli ( @maxsant ) is a musical chameleon with an incredibly deep and diverse knowledge of music. One half of the Eora/ Sydney duo @angophora , and an avid record collector,  
max has released a beautiful range of releases under the duo and his solo project. 

The warm qualities that shine through in maxes music are reflective of his deeply humble character, and his music never fails to blow me away - beautifully tranquil and always unique.

One of the founding members of Upstairs/Downstairs crew, a local party series as well as an incredibly curated mix series that runs parallel. A genuinely nice guy on and off the field, his dedication to detail instills hope for the next generation of music lovers and music makers. 

With an essence of maturity and hints of Weatherall and Drexciya, Darcy has delivered a mix that spans beyond his years. Truly capturing the romance of computer generated courtship and deep-seated digital discourse. With dips and trips in and out of the water, this mix moves like a current in the ocean. Powel has been a part of the Bespoke Musik family since nearly the beginning, when we invited him to NY for his first gig outside of Germany back in 2014. Over the years, he has consistently been one of the most sought-after Producers in deep house / electronica with releases on a multitude of labels including All Day I Dream, Anjunadeep, Do Not Sit on the Furniture, and our very own Bespoke Musik. He is also an artist whom we consider to be one of the finest DJs in the world.

An expert at creating harmonious illusions of sound, Germany’s Powel always finds a way to thread together natural elegance and tasteful patience in music.

Having learned the piano at a young age and subsequently performed regularly with bands and even an orchestra, Powel’s palette of music has a vast and thorough foundation that is influenced by the people and places he comes across during his visits. The sound artist’s unique touch as a musician is heard in how he captures warm, celestial vibes filled with airy atmospheres together with delicate rhythms and tells a melancholic story fused with ghostly, low-slung cuts that are rich with nuance and subtlety.
