Summer has fully arrived, and with things heating up on the island, Beneath the Surface returns with Mick Wilson and August Artier bringing another carefully selected batch of underground music.
This month’s show opens with the trademark swing of Mr. G’s “Let’s Do It…” before moving into the hazy, emotional depths of Dan Piu’s “Whispers of Goodbye.” There’s weight and grit from Soft Clip’s “SOFT BLIP” and the twisted electro energy of Hooverian Blur’s “Wacky Robot”, balanced by the stripped, percussive flow of “Ritmo (Trans Mix)” from Thomas Von Party & Mera De La Rosa.
Todd Modes’ “I Can’t Stop” adds a soulful vocal moment, while Deefo’s “Yo Mama” and Dave N.A.’s “Nexor” bring a tougher, club-ready edge. Elsewhere, Big Hands’ “Bacchanalia I” and Konerytmi’s “Vainio” provide more off-centre, textural moments, and Glenn Underground & GUakaCVO close things out with a deep, jazz-inflected groove that stays locked in the pocket.

Do you know the feeling of coming back from vacation and still holding on to the beautiful memories made at the beach? That’s the mood Nikita von Tiraspol captures on his new EP. Three tracks that move between uplifting summer beach house and melancholic, shimmering evening moods. Perfect for both the island holiday itself and the journey back home.

We are excited to welcome Nikita to our label with his first EP in two years. To top it off, the release is elevated by a remix from Washington, DC–based producer Dommie, who takes a completely different approach. His rework feels like Livity Sound had grown up on the coast of Ibiza instead of the UK.

Finally, Cologne’s Panta Rex closes the EP with a hypnotic dub house track, a never-ending loop that feels like Basic Channel, but at the beach instead of in a Berlin basement.

Berlin-Hamburg duo Session Victim bring their celebrated Sidequests trilogy to a close with Chapter Three on Delusions Of Grandeur, wrapping up the series in signature style. Full of warmth, groove and left-of-centre touches that remind us why their music has remained so enduring over nearly two decades. Once again blurring the lines between live instrumentation, crate-digging textures and deep house aesthetics, the record feels like both a culmination and a new beginning.
On the A-side, ‘Too Soft To Be Loud (Ian Pooley Remix)’ finds German house pioneer Ian Pooley reworking the original into a sleek, floor-focused roller. Shuffling drums, glowing synth pads, and that distinctive Pooley touch elevate the track into prime late-night territory, striking a balance between hypnotic subtlety and groove-driven energy. ‘Know Less with Viken Arman’ showcases the magic of Session Victim’s continued collaboration with the French producer. A heady, slow burning cut that layers dreamy strings, glitchy keys, and a syncopated bassline, the track unfolds patiently, rewarding deep listeners with moments of spacious beauty and understated intensity.
Flipping over ‘Broken Coast with Viken Arman’ heads into cinematic territory, combining driving drums, delicate Rhodes fragments, and immersive atmospherics. There’s a mysterious, almost soundtrack-like quality here, capturing the ominous mood of an after dark stroll around NYC’s Central Park in the 70’s, while maintaining the unmistakable swing of Session Victim’s grooves. Closing out the trilogy in style ‘Rain Or Shine’  introduces a new collaboration with San Francisco beatsmith Eo (Moniker/ Circus Company), weaving together intricate downtempo rhythms and jazzy vocal chops. Balancing lightness and depth, the track grooves along effortlessly giving off a sun-soaked energy - an uplifting finale to the Sidequests journey.
With Chapter Three, Session Victim deliver yet another set of genre-defying pieces that honour their deep musical roots while pointing toward fresh possibilities. Their chemistry with long-time collaborators, coupled with the ever-trusted Delusions Of Grandeur platform, ensures the Sidequests trilogy will stand as a modern classic in their discography.

MM Discos marks its decade-long journey with a heartfelt compilation of over 30 tracks – a tribute to the artists who have defined its past and those who will shape its future. The label's unique identity was forged in the chaotic, all-night sessions at its Erkstrasse 19 basecamp, a freedom that evolved into a philosophy of rejecting genres in favour of pure musical instinct. This anniversary celebrates that "no rules" ethos with a three-volume "sonic tutti-frutti," beginning with a first instalment that rides a spectrum from laid-back grooves to upbeat, Balearic-tinged House rhythms.

As a highlight of the celebratory soirée, Pleasure Voyage's "Puertas Del Cielo" perfectly embodies the label's genre-fluid philosophy. The composition is a beautiful sun-drenched theme, built on a warm, undulating bassline that provides a foundation for ethereal melodies and subtly Latin-inflected percussion. Soaring synth lines evoke a sense of celestial ascent, living up to its title "Gates of Heaven," while intricate textural details and an effortlessly cool groove ensure its dance-floor potency. It’s a sophisticated and immersive listen that confirms the duo's distinctive flair for creating transportive anthems designed for open skies and open minds.
