Tea Mikeladze Presents Japanese New Age, Environmental Music & Japanoise
While intersecting with calm, relaxing, spiritual and optimistic New Age music, Japanese kankyō ongaku (same as environmental music) also produces its very own new sound. It was formed at the end of the 20th century under the influence of Brian Eno, Erik Satie and the growth of consumerism in Japan. Unlike the western understanding of ambient music, environmental music did not aim to create an illusion of escape from the reality, but rather wanted to fill the existing environment: music had the commercial purposes and was mostly produced for shopping centers and similar environments as background music.
The last part of the selection is dedicated to Japanoise, a Japanese scene of noise music that appeared in the 90s of the 20th century and which gave ear-scattering noise a musical purposes.
