Derek Carr has been producing and releasing Detroit-tinged Electronic music for around two decades. He has recently released music on labels such as Firescope Records, Craigie Knowes, Subwax, 20/20 Vision Recordings, Fluid Electronics, We're Going Deep, For those that Knoe, Revoke and many more. 

Born and raised in Westmeath, Derek got an early taste for finely crafted melodic Techno through compilations like Network’s ‘Bio-Rhythms’ and Warp’s ‘Pioneers of the Hypnotic Groove’. Having been a fan of bands such as Kraftwerk and Depeche Mode through his formative years, Derek felt drawn to this new sound coming from Detroit, Sheffield and Leeds.

Recognising the home made ‘punk’ ethos of early ‘Bleep Techno’ he began to pick up second hand instruments, initially investing in a cheetah sampler and boss drum machine. Derek then set about creating his own sound, a sound that owed much to the Techno pioneers, B12, the Black Dog, As One, Nexus 21 and Rhythmatic to name but a few.

In 2001 Derek launched his own label Trident Recordings, and after a big hiatus, the label has managed to accumulate 6 EPs, and the catalog is planned to grow with new scheduled releases.

Third time playing at the amazing Freerotation festival and yet the first recorded.  7pm on the Friday evening, so nothing too banging, but still plenty to move to.

What Could Possibly Go Wrong? [MiX for Lisa C]

At our end of the music landscape, it's rare to find anyone not deeply touched by the music of Peter Kersten, aka Lawrence. He has been traversing the electronic music scene for over 20 years, guiding the iconic Dial label and stopping off at stalwarts as varied as Smallville to Giegling, while keeping a close companionship with Japan’s Mule Musiq. The 2022 Earthshine EP under his Sten moniker is his first full length contribution to the Sushitech catalogue and sees his voyaging take on deep techno onboard some added oomph. His club sets are an absolute must and reflect his honest, emotive and quirky personality, which we are lucky enough to share with you in this interview.
