Deep and hypnotic techno artist Kontinum steps up for this week's Global Vibe Radio episode.

Initially inspired by the subcultural scene of his hometown of Lübeck, the young artist was strongly influenced by the predominant sound of the Leipzig techno scene. Especially the infamous Institut fuer Zukunft and its hypnotic and dissociative sound significantly formed his distinctive style and quickly paved his way into the local scene.

In 2017 Kontinum co-founded the project @nebulakollektiv and, after organising their first raves, the collective quickly found its way into Leipzig's club scene and managed to establish its own event series at Institut fuer Zukunft.

In addition to managing most of Nebula's musical affairs, Kontinum continues to steadily enhance his own remarkable sound which can already be listened to on his releases on labels such as Circular Limited, Lowless and Agos.

Up next we have Michal Jablonski. With a mixture of dense industrial atmospheres, offbeat sounds and cinematic elements, driven by an energetic kick, the Warsaw-born artist has been a well known figure in the techno scene in Poland and abroad. This resulted in released on labels such as CRS, Newrhythmic and Secret Keywords. Apart from his musical career, he's co-founder of the Lost in Ether platform, including a podcast series that also inspires us and is definitely worth checking out. 

For this podcast, he showcased a more deeper side of his own musical spectrum, slowly putting you into trance for the next hour.

Dycide’s production always returns to the theme of escapism and for Inchmix073 he weaves together a restrained, yet pulsating narrative exploring hypnotic structures and percussive patterns .

For the 18th mix in our series, we are super hyped to host, one of the greatest young talents out there: Laima Adelaide. She is a Latvian producer and composer based in Stuttgart. She studies classical composition and besides her interests in contemporary classical music she derives inspiration from nature. In her music, she experiments textures and atmospheres, searching for a borderline between monotony and hypnotic rhythms and melodies. Besides her release on On Board, she has collaborated with labels such as Phonotropismi, DNC Limited or Annulled Music. Thank you Laima x

On Board Music - Mix Series - Laima Adelaide OB18

1. Inicios en la música electrónica.

Empecé como muchos a finales de los ochenta, escuchando a Depeche Mode, Ultravox, OMD o Kraftwerk, y empecé a salir por salas como Kambalache o Revolver donde se ponía este tipo de música. Posteriormente, conocí el EBM y la música industrial, y sobre todo la IDM. Cosas como Autechre, Seefel, Aphex Twin, Future Sound Of London, The Orb, etc. Por aquel entonces empecé a trabajar de RRPPS en salas como Epsilon o Now y frecuentaba otras, sobre todo The Omen donde escuchaba hardtrance, y lo que se pinchaba en la época, pero sobre todo, recuerdo esas sesiones más ambientales de primera hora. Poco después conocí el techno y el house, y el idilio llega hasta nuestros días. Sitios como Bocaccio, House of Devotion, Bali Hai, Voltereta o Soma. En esos dias me maravillaba llegar a un sitio y que fuera toda una incógnita saber lo que te ibas a encontrar. A todos los niveles, música, gente, visuales, decoración, y sobre todo la fiesta en sí. Recuerdo esa época como muy enriquecedora a nivel músical, y en la que había una escena de club muy saludable. Podías encontrar en esta ciudad sin problema Trip Hop, Drum and Bass, Electro, Techno, House, Ambient... A veces todas esas cosas en una misma sesión.

2. Proyectos activos. Presente y futuro.

Alpenglühen es quizás el proyecto más activo. Tanto las sesiones como el sello. Me está proporcionando momentos de gran satisfacción. La línea editorial está cada vez más enfocada hacia sonidos más sosegados. Veremos hacia dónde va. Estoy reactivando o estoy en fase de desarrollo de otros proyectos/sellos como Downbeat, Eleve o Antimatter; y sobre todo estoy por fin, centrado en mi faceta de producción. Tanto en solitario como con mis proyectos conjuntos (Tactil, junto a Lucas Becquer; y JFR con Javier Marimón y Romi). Después de un largo letargo, se plantea una buena temporada para eventos y fiestas. Continuaré con los streamings de Alpenglühen en colaboración con Monument. Me parece un formato interesante al que creo que se le puede dar una dimensión "diferente". Además voy a estar trabajando en la programación en un nuevo festival que nace en Barcelona en primavera de 2022. Se llama "Mostra" y está hecho desde el corazón, poniendo atención a los detalles. Es un proyecto que me hace mucha ilusión. Hay tantas cosas interesantes que mostrar que me da pena que se puedan quedar algunas cosas fuera.

3. Colectivos de mujeres dentro de la electrónica como "She Makes Noise" están alzando la voz por el machismo que habita en este ámbito. Es un rumbo muy necesario, pero también se vuelve a dejar en el tintero la otra cara, esa que parece dejar mudos a muchos artistas y djs: pagos en negro, cobrar en función de la caja o ese cáncer, que va cronificándose con el tiempo: "aquí no cobras, pero te damos visibilidad". A raíz de la pandemia están saliendo nuevos sindicatos que denuncian esta terrible normalización de la precariedad.

Ésa es la realidad hoy en día. Así funcionan la mayoría de las salas. No hay sueldo fijo por pinchar y en la mayoría de los casos, se cobra en negro. Ahora parece que está cambiando y hay un poco más de control sobre todo en cuanto a lo de hacer contrato o facturar se refiere. El tema de los porcentajes, sigue igual de mal. Yo mismo he estado mucho tiempo contribuyendo a esa precarización de la figura del dj, aceptando esos porcentajes y pidiendo favores a amigos para que pinchen en fiestas mías dónde he podido pagarles muy poco. Creo que hay que cambiar eso, y por mi parte, en ello estoy.
