Phonica dives into a new era, or season if you will, of our long established mix series after a stomping 100th mix from London legend Erol Alkan. 
We jump into our 101st mix from one of our most recent Phonica releasee's; French born and Swiss based DJ & producer Lea Lisa. If you some how managed to miss Lea's most recent outing with us we highly recommend it. Taking inspiration from legend Mark Goddard's (aka The Truth) classic "The End", Lea's "Love To The End" is her own various takes on this 1992 UK gem!  And thus is what we see in Phonica mix 101, a crossing of time, styles and blends. Passing through elements of deep, cosmic, tech and jacking styles of house Lea Lisa shows that she shares the divine skills of legends like Kerri Chandler and Ron Trent. We have a quick chat with Lea about her recent projects and to see what she has in store for the future.

Her music and DJ style have gained recognition across the board, from many of the legends she grew up listening to out of Chicago and Detroit, to leading figures in today's house and techno scene.

As a producer, Cinthie has been developing her style and sound over the past five years, building up her vast collection of vintage synthesizers and drum machines amidst an array of contemporary equipment.

We consider ourselves quite chameleon at SlothBoogie. Happy to move our DJ sets, label and guest mixes into the various corners of the house music church to provide variety and depth in flavour. 

Matt Edwards epitomises this approach. With many monikers to call upon, he can mould himself as necessary to satisfy an array of musical interests. From the Chi-town hi-nrg of Matthew E, through to the Balearic psychedelia of Quiet Village, the spectrum is covered. 

So who better to mark our 400th (!) edition of the guest mix series, under the guise of his most recognised alias, Radio Slave.

"It’s been a real pleasure recording this mix. Putting together just over 60 minutes of underground gems, old and new including some of my all-time favourites like Boris Duglosh’s remix of Syncbeat’s 'Music'.

And I was trying to capture the vibe of my recent closing at the Panorama Bar in Berlin. 7am Monday morning vibes where anything goes!

This was all done on my laptop, using an Akai APC40 controller and mixed in Ableton, which isn’t so different to using CDJ’s and after I made my selection, I recorded the entire mix live with very little editing.

I should also mention I mixed this on a little island called Jerolim which is in front of Hvar in Croatia. Enjoy!"

As we say goodbye to a wonderful late Summer in Berlin, we don't feel quite ready yet for the dark and rainy days to come. To keep spirits high, we invited a true master of his craft and one of our favorites to take over this month's episode of our podcast series: Ian Pooley.

Low key, high quality. They're the four words that best sum up Ian Pooley. He has been a part of the underground from almost the moment house music arrived in Europe, and has been helping to shape it ever since. His authentic take on the genre has brought in fresh influences over the years, but never at the expense of his signature sound or in favour of a cheap hit. He’s as well informed as DJs come, so to hear him play is always a thrill.

Pooley cannot remember a time without music. He basically grew up being a DJ and producer. From his earliest days in Mainz, it was the sounds of Chicago and Detroit that turned his ear. Because of that he always played more housey than many of his peers and that soon stood him apart. That same heart and soul that first appealed to him has always defined his music and helped him connect with multiple generations while serving up plenty of essential releases.

His Meridian and Since Then albums were high watermarks for house music full-lengths, while he is one of few artists to remix Daft Punk (1997's 'Burnin') and have the favour returned when the French icons added their own spin to Pooley’s 'Chord Memory'. There have also been remixes of the likes of Jovonn and countless 12"s on a stream of influential labels from Innervisions to Rekids, but mostly he releases on his own Pooledmusic.

What unites his sounds is that they brim with subtle artistry - the mark of someone who has mastered their craft and knows exactly what is needed to make an impact. Never too much, never too little. That was certainly the case with his Silvershower alias, which first offered up stylish, deep and minimal techno on labels like Plus8 in 1996 and then his Montage label after the new millennium. As well as a famous spell of Brazilian-influenced tunes, over the years everything from jazz to soul to Krautrock has coloured his music.

As a widely respected DJ, Pooley has played at a long list of major clubs and festivals from Panoramabar to Glastonbury Festival via multiple tours of North and South America, Asia, Canada, and Australia. He’s a DJ who plays with control. The grooves flow as he fuses early classics with tasteful new tunes, always with a sense of fun honed over thousands of hours. For the first time in 17 years, Pooley is also soon to take a new live show on the road. It will be another window into the ever-essential musical world of Ian Pooley.
