AIR x Operator - Rotterdam Architecture Month 2024 - 6th June 2024

Elke stad heeft ‘vrijplaatsen’ nodig, open ruimtes die niet tot op de laatste vierkante meter zijn volgeprogrammeerd maar juist de ruimte bieden om ze telkens opnieuw  in te nemen, te interpreteren en te programmeren. Het landgoed Land van Hoboken ging in 1924 over in de handen van de stad. Voorwaarde was dat het zou worden gebruikt voor functies die de gemeenschap dienden. Sindsdien verrezen er scholen, een ziekenhuis, musea, een park, en een depot. 

Architecture City #14 neemt het gebied vanuit verschillende perspectieven onder de loep: sociaal, historisch en ontwerpend. Is iedereen hier nog wel welkom? En hoeveel ruimte biedt het Museumpark nog voor ongeprogrammeerde activiteiten? Kunnen we de historische ontwikkelingen die het Land van Hoboken heeft doorgemaakt nog zien en ervaren? En wat zijn de effecten van een overdaad aan grootstedelijke ambities op het ontwerp? Architecture City gaat in gesprek met ontwikkelingspsycholoog, journalist en initiatiefnemer van Tussenstad, Leeszaal West en Recht op de stad, Joke van der Zwaard; met architect,  eco-sociaal designer en ontwerper van de Tijd Toren, Alexandra Sonnemans; en met ontwerper van textiel, landschap, tentoonstellingen en ontwerper van het Museumpark, Petra Blaisse. Live op 20 juni om 10:00 uur vanuit het Henketpaviljoen.

Architecture City [14] - Het Museumpark - 20th June 2024

Rounding off Operator’s residency at Rotterdam Architecture Month, Culture Radio returns with a special edition on the Rotterdam housing crisis.

Broadcasting live from Boijmans van Beuningen, Eva van Breugel from Architecture Instituut Rotterdam joins Seb and Cara with two guest speakers: Dr Michelle Provoost and Mustapha Eaisaouiyen.

Michelle is an architectural historian, co-founder of Crimson Historians & Urbanists and member of the Dean Team at Rotterdam’s Independent School For The City. She will discuss the history of the housing crisis and explain how we arrived at the current situation.

As a former member of the Tweede Kamer, Mustapha has worked at the very forefront of the crisis. He will share his thoughts and experiences, as well as explain his connection to activist group Recht op de Stad and no doubt give inspiration to us all to fight to make Rotterdam a fairer and more affordable city.
