Berlin-based Curses brings a romantic edge to the dance floor, blending 80's New Wave, the darker side of Italo-Disco and flashes of EBM with his own ghostly vocals.

The debut album from Curses, 'Romantic Fiction' dropped on Jennifer Cardini's Dischi Autunno imprint in October 2018, launching his live act which brings the guitars, vocals and energy of the album to stage as a duo.
 Whether it's DJng in the main room at Circoloco DC-10, or performing live at festivals like, Nuits Sonores, Curses brings punk and new wave energy to all dance floors of any size.

Curses has also released on labels such as Permanent Vacation, Bordello A Parigi, Oráculo Records, and Wrong Era, and curated a double- LP vinyl compilation (NEXT WAVE ACID PUNX) Via Belgian powerhouse, N.E.W.S, showcasing a passion for New Beat, Early EBM, Post-punk and obscure Italo which gained critical acclaim worldwide. 

The 2nd album, 'Incarnadine' returned to Dischi Autunno in April, with a special edition vinyl in collaboration with Parisian Fashion brand, Saint Laurent.
Curses continues to bring a romantic and punk energy to the club, threading the ethereal nostalgia of the 80s and 90s into the future of now.

Luca Venezia de son vrai nom est un dj et producteur américain basé à Berlin, il y a maintenant plus d'une dizaine d'années qui a su se réinventer et est aller puiser dans ses influences passées à savoir le punk et l'électronique des années 80. De ce savant mélange en est sorti la Next Wave Acid Punx, terme qu'il utilisé pour ses superbes compilations sorties chez Eskimo Records. Est-ce un style ? Starborough has been involved in the Westcoast Sound of Holland scene around Cybernetic Broadcasting System and IntergalacticFM for almost 20 years, organising parties, hosting radioshows and running the now defunct Radio Galaxia channel for IntergalacticFM. With his broad selection of classic house, electro and disco tracks he rocked dancefloors throughout the Netherlands. He played online for various online stations and podcasts, but most importantly: IntergalacticFM. Starborough’s carefully constructed deejaysets combine the swing of soul and funk with the mechanical push of house and electro, with some Italian melancholy thrown in for good measure.

"First of all thank you again for the invite, I’m super happy to be on italorator! It’s probably my favourite mix series at the moment.

Initially I tried to exclusively pick tacks that hadn't been featured on italorator before but I certainly missed some. In the end I went for a selection that best reflects my personal taste and appreciation for the genre, including some of my all time favorites and new found gems. Besides Italo I ventured into adjacent genres like early acid house and new beat but kept the overall vibe seductive and sleazy, just how I like it. I have been waiting for a chance to open a set with Einzelhaft by Falco (from one of the best albums ever made, no doubt) and this seemed like a worthy occasion."

I wrote this song from the inside of a collapse, where love, desire, and irritation all speak at once and none of them wait their turn. The voice isn’t trying to be kind or coherent; it’s trying to be honest in real time. I’m talking to someone I still want, even as I’m pushing them away, hoping they fall again not out of cruelty but because falling proves you were ever really there. The language snaps and hisses because that’s how the body remembers conflict—sharp, animal, unfinished.

As the song moves, intimacy becomes crowded. Names blur, bodies overlap, affection turns into accounting. I’m holding someone close while already feeling replaceable, replaying scenes like evidence I can’t stop reviewing. Humor leaks in—awkward, bitter, almost childish—because laughter is sometimes the only way to survive disrespect without fully hardening. Even tenderness feels unstable, like sleeping next to someone while quietly counting how much of myself I’ve already given away.

By the end, the song admits decay without trying to fix it. Some roots were cut long ago; some rotted while I pretended they were still feeding me. What’s left is not revenge but clarity—throwing away what smells wrong, naming what can’t be saved. The final gesture isn’t reconciliation or forgiveness; it’s letting collapse speak, accepting that not everything broken wants to grow again!
