Culture Radio teams up with AIR once again for a special broadcast live from the Stadmakerscongres!

Cara has invited representatives from Shadows United - a collective of Rotterdam-based artists with and without the right residency papers. 

They’ll talk about using art to humanise humanity, fight for human rights and shape our reality. 

Seb will speak to Jan Brandt from Cult Is Us, looking at the process of turning an empty Rotterdam space into a flourishing cultural venue.

For this special 'On AIR' episode at the Stadmakerscongres, hosts Eva van Breugel and Fatima Jabor talk to two nominees of last year's Van Der Leeuwprijs: Mitchel Sam Sin and Adiam Tseggai about , as well as Rinske Brand.

Mitchel Sam Sin is a programmer and organiser at MONO, Cult North, De Koepels and more. Adiam Tseggai is a multi-talented cultural entrepreneur, programmer and presenter at Femme for Change, the Rotterdam Library and more. Rinske Brand is an expert on cultural entrepreneurship, and is dedicated to fostering vibrant cities that prioritise people's needs via culture-led development, place testing, and place branding.

Al eeuwenlang migreert de mensheid naar de stad, want in steden is werk te vinden. In het huidige politieke klimaat staat de aankomstfunctie van de stad sterk onder druk. Nieuwkomers wordt ontraden om te komen, terwijl er genoeg banen voor het oprapen liggen. Maar ook al is er werk, dan is het ook de vraag of steden erin slagen in goede huisvesting, gezondheidszorg en gemeenschapsleven te voorzien.

In deze aflevering van Architecture City onderzoeken we het fenomeen van de stad als plek van aankomst vanuit verschillende perspectieven. Wat heeft een stad nodig om nieuwkomers goed te kunnen opvangen? Welke bijdrage leveren ontwerpers en bestuurders daaraan? En als de stad van aankomst tekortschiet, liggen er dan kansen in de publieke ruimte om toch plaats te maken voor nieuwkomers?”
