DJ Different dons his Terraform alias as he begins his journey in ‘Entering The Void’ on CYBERDOME; exploring phat electro bass-lines and party-starting ghettotech energy with its crosshairs fixated firmly on the club environment.

Born and raised in the culturally rich city of Malmo, the Swedish producer has previously released on London based label Deeply Cultured, Distant Hawaii, Mood Of Era, 1Ø PILLS MATE and Traxx Underground, spanning atmospheric techno, ethereal breakbeat and chunky electro.

‘Ultrasonic’ is an ear-wriggling cut of stripped-back psychedelia. As David Holmes would say, all the best electronic music tracks are made up of only a few components. Here, typical electro synth stabs, robotic vocal sampling and sparse precision allows the track room to breathe, whilst maintaining a deep and funk-driven groove.

‘Ghettotech’ sounds how you would expect it to; pounding kicks, frantic atmospherics and lairy screw-face hype combine on a certified fire-starter, before ‘Exiting The Void’ introduces itself on a footwork vibe that evolves into a sequence of interstellar-dungeon dub-electro.

‘The Rise of the Slavs’ takes its inspiration from the diverse group of tribes who lived in Central and Eastern Europe in the 6th to 10th centuries, establishing the foundations for the Slavic nations; it’s marching rhythm beaming historical context into 21st Century dance music.

Oscean comes out firing from the outset on their new 12" entitled Multirays. The Argentinian duo of Andrés Zacco and Sebastián Galante are following up on the first release of their collaboration, Ideoma, also released on Tresor Records. With Multirays, this burgeoning collaboration reveals a promising evolution, moving into more rhythmically diverse environments and playful structures.

The opening track, Multidimensional, strikes with confronting beats and a searching, woolly bass sound. Constantly growing, it moves confidently with its skittering percussion work, ebbing and flowing through filter movements and expansive synths. Invisible Rays draws in breathing techno pulses, as Zacco and Galante cast drenches of feedback across the spectrum. A deceptively mellow melody, recalling Spiral from their debut EP, teases at a deeper melodic progression, but the focus stays locked on the animated rhythms, tempting towards divergent grooves but expertly keeping feet on the floor.

In Drivion, Oscean investigates electro territories, simultaneously bubbling and driving. Echoed arpeggiations and upfront beats funnel impulses between neurons. Broad synth gestures offer gateways into abstraction before, without barely a hint, the rhythms beat once more. On the closing track, Horisonsz, the duo drive forth through skipping rhythms and soul-searching bass murmurs. Synth pads beckon with fresnel lens reflections and rising warmth, motioning towards a stunning moment of euphoria, where futurist mirages coexist with distant memories.

In a world increasingly under the sway of algorithms and with the advent of AI, potentially signaling an epochal moment as important as the Industrial Revolution, Micron Audio releases the next in its series of forward-thinking electronic music: BOTS by Belgium’s 6SISS.

Much as early electro was driven by the twin influence of the rhythm of the factories of Detroit and a bold imagining of life beyond (or below) our world, BOTS takes its cues from the ideas and concepts surrounding our potential near-future such as Machine Learning and Natural Language Processing. 

At times the music swirls with sounds that bring to mind nascent intelligence slowly working out its purpose, albeit an intelligence alien to that found in animals. 
In other moments the rhythm shudders and shakes like the microsecond “thoughts” of an AI slowed down infinitesimally, overlaid with speech manipulated into sounds completely unrecognizable yet strangely familiar, like listening in to a conversation between two programs.
Released on 12” record and, more fittingly, digital, BOTS returns electro to its roots in envisioning the future whilst freeing itself from the paradigm of the genre’s past to create a soundtrack of the AI world; a view beyond the algorithm.

Over many weeks and months the two bounced audio and project files across the ether, both finishing each others unfinished tunes to create the EP.

Boulderhead, a Bristol-based producer renowned for his intricately crafted, up-tempo productions, and okayokayokay, celebrated for his fusion of breakbeats. Both combine their talents to take listeners on a journey through shimmering synths, rolling basslines, and intricate percussive patterns, all carefully combined into something that feels equally at home on the dancefloor as it does the post-party winddown.

The ongoing importance of this album is indisputable, essential both to techno and to Tresor.

Glasgow based producer, Galaxian, is set to drop the 11th release of Helena Hauff’s Return to Disorder imprint. “Paradise Engineering” is an ambitiously psychedelic piece of machine mastery that will be right at home on Hauff’s label, with which she set out to bring “punk rock and techno together” in 2015. The label’s name refers to the reactionary post-WW1 art movement, Return to Order, which called for a rejection of the avant-garde in favor of conservatism and classicism. Return to Disorder has embraced experimentation and genre bending with releases from the likes of Children of Leir, Morah and Umwelt. Galaxian’s proximity to the sharp edge of quantum chaos and belief in the anarchism of nature make him a fitting addition to the Hamburg based label.

“Paradise Engineering”, is a lot to unpack. Within its four tracks, Galaxian lays out an intricate web of self, spiritual and socio-technic exploration and critique. Producing the cover art alone took him on a 12 month journey, while meditating on questions of inner-alchemy, freedom and transcendence. The music covers extensive sonic topography with each of the four distinct tracks building a critical tension while creating counterpoint for one another. Violently intricate drum machine work stakes out the boundaries of “Paradise Engineering’s” autonomous zone, where Galaxian lays out a dense thesis on the harrowed human condition. The tracks leave the listener much to ponder, especially with lines like, “You have been deprived of knowledge by frequency control” and “All possibilities exist”. Synth and bass lines emerge oscillating around each other from deep space on the EP’s second A-side, “Mutual Arising”, clean and crisp supporting elements to stratospheric strings. It gets significantly more aggressive on the B-side with “Life Force” drilling through neck-snapping electro drums with acid patterns, whose methodic dynamism and complexity begins to sound like inter-galactic alien transmissions when blown through a dizzying effect chain. Comfortably between literal and abstract, complex and elegant, “Paradise Engineering” is a deep and rewarding listen.

Arsonist Recorder presents a selection of Vaxxer remixes from some brilliant electro producers, the brothers, and sisters of the Specimen Records camp. 

Its certainly been a weird year for sure, the title “Vaxxer” in 2020 was chosen back when I first saw this word popping up in some article, very early on in the Corona-saga. Who would have thought it would have become such a mainstay expression in our everyday lives hardly one year later. It has become yet another way to label people and put us into groups: “Vaxxers” and “anti-vaxxers”, another detail in the evolution towards a dystopia that is not happening in movies but in real day-to-day life.

Just a track name at first, we decided to use it also as the title for the whole EP which eventually was released in April 2020 on Specimen Records, and like anything virus-related it started living its own life, growing stronger as more DJ’s were picking it up: Dave Clarke, Solid Blake, DJ Stingray, Ralph Lawson, ADJ, to name but a few.

Now, a year ahead, it brings me great pleasure and honour to present these exclusive remixes and interpretations of Vaxxer, the artists involved are big inspirations and one by one true hero's of mine, most of whom have become dear friends in these difficult times. When these remixes started coming in, I'm in awe of the sonics that presented to me and I'm proud to present The Vaxxer remixes.
