C’est comme un murmure au fond du cerveau. Des pensées parasites permanentes. Au sujet du ventre (est-ce qu’on va voir mon bourrelet avec ce t-shirt ?), des fesses (pourquoi j’ai repris du gratin dauphinois ?) ou des cuisses (ce petit paréo sera parfait pour cacher ma culotte de cheval). En effet, ça ne vole pas très haut, et on est au courant qu’il y a mieux à faire que de surveiller ses kilos. Mais le fait est que ça nous pourrit la vie, surtout si on est une femme. Les psychologues appellent ça l’anxiété corporelle : une forme de haine de soi chevillée à la cellulite et qui condamne à manger des endives. 
D’où vient cette tyrannie de la minceur ?  Pourquoi intériorise-t-on si docilement la règle sociale qui fait de la minceur une condition sine qua non de la beauté ? Alors qu’elle rend tout le monde malheureux, et provoque de graves troubles du comportement alimentaire chez 5% des adolescentes ? Et surtout, comment s’en libérer ? 

Pour ce dernier épisode avant la plage , Delphine Saltel sonde les méandres de notre rapport au corps et l’obsession contemporaine pour la taille 38. Désespérée de voir sa fille stresser sur son poids à même pas 12 ans et demi, elle part à Poitiers consulter deux chercheurs en psychologie sociale qui étudient les mécanismes de la comparaison sociale, l’exposition passive aux normes de minceur et leur impact sur la psyché féminine.  Elle croise le récit d’Eloïse, une jeune femme fascinée par l’élection de Miss France et touchée par l’anorexie, avec celui de la réalisatrice féministe Ovidie. Une plongée dans le bain culturel qui abreuve nos posts Instagram et nos imaginaires conditionnés. Vivons heureux avant la fin du monde (14) : Doit-on apprendre à faire l'amour ?
Comment continuer à faire l’amour sans se poser de questions quand on est hétéro, mais aussi fan de Virginie Despentes ? Intellectuellement, on peut tout à fait adhérer aux idées féministes qui démontent les pratiques érotiques standard, à base de pénétration et de domination masculine. Mais en pratique, il n’est pas forcément évident de rebooter son répertoire à fantasmes. Peut-on vraiment dégommer les scénarios sexuels incrustés dans notre psyché ? Qu’en faire ? Comment les assumer sans s’aliéner à ce fichu patriarcat ?

En proie à ces grandes questions et à un vague sentiment de culpabilité, Delphine Saltel rencontre le philosophe Alexandre Lacroix, homme, cis, hétéro, marié, père de 5 enfants, et philosophe. Dans son dernier livre « Apprendre à faire l’amour » paru aux éditions Allary, il essaie d’interroger la sexualité hétéro standard, à sa manière. En puisant dans sa discipline quelques outils sexologiques originaux, Alexandre Lacroix nous incite à passer au rayon X les scripts sexuels dominants dont nous avons hérité. Car pour revisiter nos automatismes et notre imaginaire érotique, il faut déjà prendre conscience des règles et des conventions sociales auxquels on obéit souvent inconsciemment quand on fait l’amour. Analyser le cocktail freudo-porno-sexo qui nous abreuve, et changer nos habitudes pour espérer modifier le scénario.

Née à Paris en 1979, Jakuta Alikavazovic est une romancière multirécidiviste suspectée à juste titre de détournements d’attention, de trafic d’énigmes et de corruption d’imaginaires. Elle a reçu en 2008 le Goncourt du premier roman pour « Corps volatils » (L’Olivier) et, en 2021, le prix Médicis de l’essai pour « Comme un ciel en nous » (Stock). Elle a aussi publié d’habiles romans pour la jeunesse et une histoire d’amour inoubliable, « L’Avancée de la nuit ». Mais qui est donc cette érudite « d’un naturel inquiet », souvent vêtue d’un imperméable de détective privé, pour qui « internet est l’ennemi juré de l’écriture », par ailleurs chroniqueuse enjouée pour « Libération » et traductrice anglophone d’Eve Babitz ou de David Forster Wallace ? Pour le savoir, y a qu’à écouter Jakuta.

(3/3) La nuit elle ment
C’est une histoire d’amour extraordinaire et, au moins pour l’une des deux personnes concernées, très compliquée. À Paris, Paul, dix-huit ans, réceptionniste et étudiant en architecture ayant « coupé les ponts » avec son modeste milieu d’origine, comble un ennui existentiel par quelques « étreintes évasives dans les escaliers de secours ». Une nuit, il rencontre Amélia Dehr, riche héritière de la chaîne d’hôtels qui l’emploie. Panique totale, et début d’une romance brûlante longue durée. « Elle était de ces gens qui détruisent tout et appellent ça de l’art. » Amélia choisira de s’en aller dans ces Balkans « à peine pacifiés » à la recherche de sa mère, Nadia, praticienne d’une poésie à vocation documentaire, partie dans les ruines de la guerre en ex-Yougoslavie pour essayer d’exprimer, par fragments, l’épuration ethnique, la torture, les crimes de masse. Paul tentera de survivre à cette absence, à sa manière. 

Publié en 2017 aux éditions de L’Olivier, « L’Avancée de la nuit » a pour racine l’un des silences de la mère de Jakuta Alikavazovic : sa décision d’arrêter d’écrire. « Le silence est un organisme. Il est vivant et il s'infiltre », lit-on dans ce roman fort maîtrisé sur « les secousses sismiques » des traumatismes familiaux. « La fiction représente la distance juste, qui permet de voir. Comme un instrument d'optique », dit l’autrice à propos de cette tragédie intime qui flirte avec l’anticipation, via des puces de surveillance et des voitures sans chauffeur. 

Retenu sur les listes du prix littéraire du Monde, du Médicis, du Femina et du Livre Inter, salué comme la « révélation française de l’année » par le magazine Lire, « L’Avancée de la nuit » s’est seulement écoulé à 5800 exemplaires. Il se pourrait que cela change. Récemment traduit aux Etats-Unis, il a été applaudi par l’écrivaine britannique Deborah Levy pour « sa profondeur tenace », qui « met en lumière nos blessures individuelles et collectives, sans jamais dépouiller ses personnages de leurs défauts ni de leurs zones d'ombre ». Il est l'heure de plonger dans la nuit.

Money For Nothing?

"Incremental change may be good theory, but in practice you have to have a big enough stick to hit everybody with to make everything move at once". So shares Adrian Cockcroft, who helped lead Netflix's migration from datacenter to the cloud -- and from monolithic to microservices architecture -- when their streaming business (the "stick"!) was exploding.

So how did they -- and how can other companies -- make such big, bet-the-company kind of moves, without getting mired in fanatical internal debates? Does organizational structure need to change, especially if moving from a more product-, than project-based, approach? What happens to security? And finally, what happens to the role of CIOs; what can/should they do?

Most interestingly: How will the entire industry be affected as companies not only adopt, but essentially offer, microservices or narrow cloud APIs? How do the trends of microservices, containers, devops, cloud, as-a-service/ on-demand, serverless -- all moves towards more and more ephemerality -- change the future of computing and even work? In this episode of the Data Show, I spoke with Reza Zadeh, adjunct professor at Stanford University, co-organizer of ScaledML, and co-founder of Matroid, a startup focused on commercial applications of deep learning and computer vision. Zadeh also is the co-author of the forthcoming book TensorFlow for Deep Learning (now in early release). Our conversation took place on the eve of the recent ScaledML conference, and much of our conversation was focused on practical and real-world strategies for scaling machine learning. In particular, we spoke about the rise of deep learning, hardware/software interfaces for machine learning, and the many commercial applications of computer vision.

Les habitants de Tauary, petit village au coeur de la forêt amazonienne, nous emmènent écouter les sons de leur quotidien tout au long d’une journée. De l'aube en forêt à une balade en pirogue, de l'orage à la nuit, des jeux dans le fleuve à la chasse au crocodile... En constant dialogue avec leur entourage, les habitants imitent les cris des animaux (singes, toucans, aras, colibris...) pour faire entendre leur chant. Cette création est aussi disponible en podcast de 10x3 minutes. 

Nous sommes à Tauary, petit village à 600 km à l’ouest de Manaus, au Brésil. Il faut 14 heures en bateau express, 2,5 jours en bateau 'normal' ou 1 heure d'avion pour atteindre Tefé, la petite ville la plus proche. De là il faut prendre une pirogue à moteur - comptez entre 1h30 et 2h selon la saison et le niveau des eaux - pour remonter le Rio Tefé et arriver ici : https://goo.gl/maps/4UPT3UVz5GwbwmNw5
Une vingtaine de familles vivent là (environ 80 personnes), aucune ne se reconnaissant comme “indigène”. Les habitants sont issus d'un mélange de colons et d'indigènes, installés ici à l’époque de l'exploitation du latex. Il y a une école, un poste de santé avec des médicaments de base, un téléphone public (pas d’autres téléphones, pas de connexion, pas d’internet), un terrain de foot et un de volley. La ressource du village est la plantation de manioc, qui se fait ensuite en farine et se vend en ville. Le village s’auto-régule, et chacun ne peut travailler que 2ha à chaque fois. On ne déforeste donc que le nécessaire malgré toute la forêt qui est là, toute proche.

The inhabitants of Tauary, a little village in the heart of the Amazon, invite us to listen to their everyday sounds for a day. From sunrise at the forest up to a canoe ride, throughout a stormy night, from playing in the river up to a crocodile hunting… In constant dialogue with their surroundings, they imitate animal shouts (monkeys, toucans, macaws, hummingbirds) so we can listen to their singing.

O'Reilly Media spreads the knowledge of innovators. At O’Reilly, a big part of our business is paying attention to what’s new and interesting in the world of technology. We have a pretty good record at having anticipated some of the big technology developments in recent history. For instance, we launched the first commercial Web site, GNN, in 1993; we organized the meeting at which the term “open source” was first adopted; we were early investors in Blogger, which helped launch the blogging revolution; and more recently, our Web 2.0 conference launched a world-wide meme. We call this predictive sense the “O’Reilly Radar.” And while we’re certainly not always right, we are, at least, good at making interesting guesses.
