Rose Sousa (he/she/they) a.k.a ROSES born in Porto in January 1998, is a multidisciplinary artist whose work thrives at the intersections of music, visual art, and performance.

Their creative journey began in London, inspired by HTBX, KAOS and INFERNO, where he had their first years as raver. These experiences ignited her passion for music as a vehicle for storytelling and experimentation.

With a huge passion for an idea of clubbing, while learning to navigate them for almost 10 years so far, Rose started creating soundscapes of edging rhythms, noise, sounds allusive to screams and impressions of chants, and movie-like sounds through layering and looping, using their sets as a platform for voicing anything that in normal social contexts becomes harder for them. Their immersive sound challenges conventional structures, focusing on narrative, innovation, cathartic intent and aims finally to provide a transformative and self-questioning journey for listeners, taking them to distinct dreamful environments. Driven by emotion, where instinct also ends up playing a part on how she touches the knobs, or reverbs a sound, ROSES' performances and sound pieces are structured by and put emotion in first place. 

In Lisbon, Rose cultivated an archival music practice designed to evoke different feelings of tension and to foster learning along with the crowd. They performed at venues like Ministerium Club, NADA, NAV, and Prisma, using various aliases to explore diverse styles. Under their alter-drag-act DYSPHORICA, they embraced dark, raw industrial techno and in collaboration with Asterisco Colectivo, through live performance and SUBVERTED through podcast, both queer led platforms, Rose’s paths have been opened significantly in terms of her creative development.

The development of alter-acts through Rose’s expression is fundamental as they follow her own transition journey and allow the creative process to stay at constant learning levels, being this matter a very important and somewhat performative aspect of their work nurturing a hopefully never-ending kindness towards the music practice.

For many years Rose also worked as a photographer, as a fashion and creative direction assistant, being the visuality allowed by music a crucial aspect to keep her productive flow growing.
