The story of Shafiq Husayn is a very interesting and winding journey. The legendary producer, artist, Grammy Award Winning performer, songwriter, band member, father, minister and humanitarian has worked with a host of some of the most influential artist in the past 30 years.

Born in Cleveland, Ohio and reared  in Los Angeles and later in New York, he started his professional career as a member of the Nile Kings, a group signed to Ice T’s Rhyme Syndicate/Sony Records, consisting of Prince Sudan, D-Cipher, Justice and SLJ (Shafiq). Their 12′ single “Dropping Bombs”, “Listen To The Light” & “Positive Sounds” was a underground classic and displayed the early talents of Shafiq as a producer and beat-maker that he has become famous for the world over.

He is a part-founder and 1/3 of the Legendary Los Angeles based group SA-RA™ the creative collective which consist of Grammy Award Winning Producers Om’Mas Keith (Frank Ocean -Channel Orange) and Taz Arnold (Dr. Dre – Chronic 2001, Kendrick Lamar – To Pimp A Butterfly)

In 2009, Shafiq released his first solo project, the critically acclaimed album “Shafiq En’ A- Free-Ka”.  

He is the also the founder of the Dove Society,  a Los Angeles based creative collective which  spawned the likes of Anderson Paak and the Free Nationals, Jimetta Rose, Via Leaves.also 1/2 of Kron Don & Shafiq Husayn which released the critically acclaimed “White Boiz, Neighborhood Wonderful” on the Stones Throw Records label.

He has produced for the likes of Erykah Badu, Kanye West, Andre 3000, John Legend, Hiatus Kaiyote, Thundercat, Bilal, Ice T, Lord Finesse, Ty Dollar $ign, and many others.

In 2013 Shafiq was featured on the lead song, “Lift Off” on Robert Glasper’s  Grammy Award Winning R&B Album of the Year “Black Radio“.

Shafiq Husayn carries the music torch by importing and exporting sounds and genres into an otherworldly whole but always rooting back to a beats‐and‐rhymes basis.
From Fela‐Kuti style horns, Brazilian drums, to cod‐operative crooning, Shafiq’s music is a world sampler.

Welcome to the R.O.A.D. Podcast.  The show gives you unfiltered opinions from the eyes and ears of 3 seasoned DJs from the Las Vegas nightclub industry. DJ Crooked and DJ Neva come to us by way of New York; Manhattan and The Bronx respectively. Both relocated to Vegas in the early 2000s to open, what was then, Light and Jet Nightclub.   Crooked is known for his workhorse mentality, and high-energy DJ sets, but has never been one for the industry politics.  While DJ Neva has earned his OG status due to his countless years of experience in the DJ game. In 2007, they brought a piece of home with them by founding KNYEW (an acronym for “Keeping New York Every Where), a successful clothing brand, the first of its kind to be seen in Las Vegas. Similarly, Jaime Da Great grew up in LA. Jaime, while making a huge name for himself in the sneaker industry, has shifted his focus to becoming a full-time DJ.

Kabayun is a psytrance producer from the United States. After spending many years honing his sound, performing around the USA, and organizing parties in New York City, David has spent the last 5 years touring the globe, performing in many European cities, in North and Central America, Asia, India and Australia, and at many of the top summer festivals in Europe, including Ozora, MoDem, Antaris, Summer and many more....

After releasing his debut album on 2to6 Records in 2011, in 2012 David joined the team at Looney Moon Records, based in Italy. In 2015 he joined Sangoma Records, a label based in Germany that promotes psytrance without genre boundaries, which is a perfect fit for his music, which floats in the border zone between twilight, forest, and dark, pulling elements from each, for a full power, psychedelic and very danceable vibe. 

His tracks have been featured on many compilations and releases from top psytrance labels over the years, currently David is working on a ton of new music, including a new EP and an upcoming album on Sangoma Records, as well as many collaborations with some of his favorite artists and friends in the scene.

Now residing in Philadelphia, PA, USA, Kabayun is available for bookings worldwide.

Kabayun’s music intends to create an environment that stimulates the listener to release themselves from the trials of everyday life and confront their challenges through the trance dance experience. Channeling the spirit of the west, Kabayun pulls together many elements to create an intensely psychedelic experience that lifts the body and the mind to undiscovered plateaus….

Founded in 1996 by Peter Adarkwah, Barely Breaking Even (BBE Music) started life as a London club night, taking its name from the eponymous Disco record by the Universal Robot Band.

The label grew from the vibrant early 90's club scene with its first release, Stop & Listen compiled by Dr Bob Jones in 1996, opening the door to iconic series' such as All Back To Mine & Late Nite Tales.

A tonne of releases followed, ranging from Disco to Funk, Jazz to House. In the year 2000, the label celebrated Masters at Work's 10th Anniversary with a mighty box set that featured near 80 tracks.

A year later BBE Music spawned the Beat Generation Series of artist albums, notably introducing J Dilla (Welcome 2 Detroit) & a young Will.I.Am's first solo outing, alongside DJ Jazzy Jeff, Madlib & DJ Spinna, all of whom contributed to this seminal set of long players.

A quarter of a century and well over 500 titles later, having worked with Mark Ronson, Roy Ayers, Questlove, Hugh Masekela, DJ Premier, Dimitri from Paris, Joey Negro, Kon, RZA, Laurent Garnier, Black Coffee, DJ Shadow, David Rodigan and John Morales among many others, BBE Music looks to the future, celebrating its rich heritage while continuing to release a bounty of fresh titles.

The label’s most recent projects include an expansive reissue series from pioneering Nigerian label Tabansi, new imprint ‘Batakari’ in association with Boddhi Satva and the critically acclaimed ‘J Jazz’ Japanese Jazz multi-album project, not to mention the recent landmark 500th label release: a brand new version of 'Barely Breaking Even', featuring Leroy Burgess, Patrick Adams and Louie Vega.

In 2021 BBE Music is celebrating its 25th anniversary.
