OS Premiere: Fiesta Soundsystem - Pulse Fiesta [Of Paradise]

West Coast mainstays @dannygoliger and @justin-jay bring a slamming, club-ready collaborative release to Scuffed Recordings on the ‘Sticky Rice’ EP.

Danny and Justin have been releasing music together since 2020, when the two teamed up for a track on their own Fantastic Voyage imprint. Since then, the Los Angeles based artists have collaborated on tracks on Dirtybird and Childsplay, marking them out as a team to be reckoned with.

Alongside their collabs, Danny has appeared as a solo artist on labels like clip.art, art|werk and Moving Castle, while Justin has had a storied career appearing on labels as varied as Time Is Now, Suara, and Pets Recordings along with being a longtime member of the Dirtybird camp.

Now the two join forces on Scuffed Recordings, with a release including two collabs and a solo track from each artist.

From the outset, the duo wears their UK influences on their sleeves, taking in breakbeat grooves, rolling bass, and upfront percussion. Over the course of the two collabs and two solo tracks, Danny and Justin gleefully tear through an array of genres and influences – whether that’s electro, techno, UK garage, breaks, or IDM, they bounce off each other effortlessly to form a concise and impactful club EP.

We are back ! To kick off 2022, our first release comes courtesy of Montpellier’s rising talent Dylan Dylan.

She recently made waves with her house music LP titled ‘Euphoria’, released on famous outlet Shall Not Fade, and also participated to well-curated compilations, such as Court Circuit vol.1 on Plaisance Records, and we’re more than delighted to have her on board.

Her ‘Control EP’ explores the boundaries between house and bass music, with a dash of UK garage. A tasty blend of breakbeats, syncopated drums, lo-fi pads and r’n’b vocals which are her signature sounds. 

The release is rounded off with a jungle remix by our own label manager Qant.

Austrian producer Awo Ojiji brings his Mantecatura EP to Scuffed, featuring four new intricately-crafted, bass-heavy cuts.

Making his Scuffed debut on the Scuffed Presents Vol.5 compilation back in 2020 with his track ‘Woozy’, Awo Ojiji quickly picked up support from the likes of Ben UFO, Chloé Robinson, and Madam X with his surgical approach to sound design and genre-dodging sound. Following up with his Ridicoloum EP on Eclipse Tribez in 2021, he marked himself as one of the most compelling new producers to emerge in recent years.

Now, the Graz-based artist - who is a long-time resident of the city’s disko404 collective - returns to Scuffed for a full EP, flexing the full range of his production capabilities across four eclectic tracks.

From the mid-tempo opener ‘Recess’, to the footwork-influenced ‘Stress’, bassweight-focussed ‘Balsam’ and percussive dancehall-techno hybrid ‘Inwards’, Awo Ojiji displays a unique slant across the course of the EP with tracks that are at once club and headphone ready.

Awo Ojiji’s Mantecatura EP will be released on Scuffed on 27th May on all digital platforms.

For the second release of the year, we’re delighted to welcome Paris-based Jumboclat, member of SeekSickSound and Exploration Music (RIP).

Author of a first solo release on Flore’s POLAAR imprint and producing the acclaimed ‘Tell Me’ released on Vernacular Records, he is also well versed in footwork, as demonstrated by his tunes on Le French Work.

His ‘Cloverleaf EP’ is a concentrate of everything he does best : from the emotional an deep 2-step ‘B With U’ to the razor sharp breakbeats of ‘Timeslip’, the prouction is meticulous, deep and melancholic, an ode to the carribean sounds and cultures blended with futuristic sound design. To round off the EP, Stacktrace delivers a psychedelic and oppressive dub remix of the title track.

CoOp Presents are pleased to "welcome" back Oliver Night, with a brand new six-track EP, including remixes from Atjazz and Mitch von Arx.

Following up his brilliant early 2019 EP 'Make Believe', his EP once again illustrates Oliver's prowess for producing deep bruk business. This follows releases on the label from the likes of EVM128, Groove Chronicles, Risa T, LCSM, Sivey, Neue Grafik, Danvers & Reginald Omas Mamode, furthering the mission statement of label bosses IG Culture & Alex Phountzi to create a strong platform for new bruk talent and beyond, from London to the world.

For those that don't know, East London's Oliver Night is a rising talent in the bruk world. In addition to his own productions, collaborating with artists such as Jay Phelps & BB James, he recently featured on Adelaide producer Inkswel's 'Trippin' (which reached No.1 on the Traxsource Deep House chart) on Atjazz's label, as well as the title track of his new album 'Chasing Infinity' (which also features Lee Scratch Perry, Steve Spacek, Mr Scruff, Dudley Perkins, Kaidi Tatham & Talib Kweli of Black Star). There were also recent features on Parisian producer Quiet Dawn's highly acclaimed 'Movements' EP on Worldwide Award-winning London label First Word Records, and on Jimpster's recent album 'Birdhouse' on Freerange Records.

Now approaching two decades in the DJ game, Oliver was originally a member of Roots Manuva's Banana Klan, and nowadays is a regular player for the Selectors Assemble gang. He's played at various venues across the capital, from the Tate Modern to Boiler Room, and on Worldwide FM with the CoOp Presents crew. Previous support has come far and wide from selectors such as Tony Humphries, Kerri Chandler, Jazzie B, Gilles Peterson, Kid Fonque, Rainer Trueby, Jamz Supernova & Seth Troxler, and press from the likes of Bolting Bits and Music Is My Sanctuary.

So to the new EP... An entirely self-produced solo effort, it kicks off - of course - with 'Welcome', the title track. A deep commanding vocal leads the proceedings, accompanied with some Detroit Techno-tinged keys, acid squelches and occasional chopped Jungle-esque breaks. We follow this with a piece of 'Heart' - warped arpeggiated synths lead the way here, whilst also featuring some seriously soulful vocals again from Oliver himself. Things get tougher next with 'Bruk N Bass'; as the title suggests, this one has some heavy D&B influences with a seriously growling b-line and ravey synth stabs, riding a fiery bruk backbeat. The EP closes out on a more leftfield tip; 'Slated' is a deeper one, which begins with a brooding key pattern setting things off in a slightly deceptive fashion, before switching to some stripped- back bruk, containing just the right amount of sample hits and bassweight, with a mind-melting breakdown midway to boot. The set is complete with two firing remixes from Atjazz and Mitch von Ark respectively.
Oliver says "this EP is a fusion of my favourite genres - broken beat, soul, techno, house and drum 'n' bass. I've put my 'Heart' into this and would love to 'Welcome' you into my ever evolving world..."
