Extinct Ignition

I thought it would be nice to do a new recording of My Favorite Female that I did with the band Tibet in reverse in 2011. That version is a little further down if you scroll.
Here and now I have uploaded the new version. Instead of calling it a different version than the original, it has been given the British English spelling: My Favourite Female.

Hello… thanks for dropping by. This song is a loud, electric-slide song. It has overdriven slide, some homemade (learning how to:no drum kit) percussion, a vocal harmony and gravely vocals. I am happy I am able to do this at all, at 68 years of age… especially singing, which greatly wanes with age. (I really just started to sing within the last decade or so.) Traveling On… may be seen as a metaphor, or not, it doesn’t really matter. It might signify personal change or a movement toward and/or away from something. There is a hint of recognition, insofar as the unwavering essence of who we are… There is a suggestion of working toward peace. Again, this could be seen as metaphorical, in a sense of personal introspection. What do we espouse, condone and accept in this life for ourselves and society? Do you want to ‘Travel On’? These songs started with the words. 

I set the words, written by Riley Robinson, to chords on piano. The chords that felt right. I recorded the Casio electric piano, then my sawed-body Austin bass guitar both plugged in directly. Bass played with a pick. (a square corner of my old drivers license)

The organ pretty much follows the piano chords. Two different organ sounds were used for each song on The Black Cat Record. The same Casio.

Vocals. I recorded one, then muted it and recorded another. So that the second vocal wouldn't be an imitation. I tried a lot of the time to sing as if I were in a concert. One vocal is only on the left, and the other is only on the right. 

I recorded electric guitar plugged into a Blackstar amp, direct-in. Same pick used. I had a Lyon Disturbed signature guitar with a kill switch for The Black Cat Record, and a Squire with a whammy bar for Hex. Rhythm guitar was usually done twice, and only on the left or right, like the vocals. I like to think the left headphone is a slightly different album than the right.  Vocals recorded with a Shure SM57.

All songs recorded in my room on a laptop, through a preamp. On Audacity. One piece at a time. 


No A.I. 
No auto-tune. 
No metronome.
