Perpendicular 2023 - Bas Dobbelaer

With great pleasure we welcome the colombian artist and label owner of From A Lost Place @launaea for our tenth episode of the Herbarium mix series.
He chose the very special plant Espeletia, also called frailejón for his musical journey.

The frailejón is a distinctive high-altitude plant found in the paramo ecosystems of the Andes mountains in South America. It is characterized by its rosette-like arrangement of leaves, which are covered in fine hairs to retain water and protect against harsh environmental conditions. Frailejones play a vital role in the ecosystem, serving as water reservoirs and providing habitat for various species.
They reach imposing heights, cover vast tracts of terrain and transform the landscape of the páramos into a green tapestry that blends with the sky and mist, allowing those who contemplate it to immerse themselves in its natural majesty. This adaptation and resistance of the plant could be metaphorically compared to the intrinsic energy of this podcast immersing the listener in a world of intense, challenging and constantly evolving sounds, transporting them into an immersive and emotional listening experience.

He started his DJ career in 2011. His DJ is the perfect tuneing for the dance floor and his sound genre is many techno from Deep Hypnotic, Acid, Trance, Breakbeats and Psychedelic.He is an artist who is loved by many people because he plays crossover and adventurous techno while reading the atmosphere of the floor. Tatsuoki released his dj mix from Dino Sabatini’s Outis Music Podcast in Italy on 2016, and also from "Out System" at Germany, "Oslated" at Korea, "Munitum" at Italy, TechnoTrippin', Archaic at Spain and MONUMENT at Norway.
Tatsuoki launched his own event "Broad" at Tokyo in 2012 and he was stick to crossover and adventurous techno for sound genre.So, he booked many famous and active all over the world Techno Artist of UK Bristol bass, Detroit electro, and Hard and Deep Hypnotic. Then, it had grown into a techno party that represents Contact Tokyo. In the spring of 2020, he moved to Fukuoka to learn about the new scene, and started a new activity on Kieth Flack, which is also an important local venue. He also continues to make his event "Broad" on there, and now he is booking techno artists from Japan and abroad every other month to make Fukuoka's current techno scene. And his goal in the future will be active in national and international and played at HÖR Berlin on May 2023 and will do his best at Korea tour on July.

Ko-Ta is influenced by old techno pop music like YMO, Kraftwerk and minimal techno like Jeff Mills and Basic Channel.
He started making his own music in 1991 and DJing in 1993 in Kushiro, Hokkaido. Ko-Ta established the minimal techno label Stratosphere in 1997. Stratosphere released 7 EPs especially for DJs. He now gets DJ offers from all over Japan.

Liibermann started in January, 2008.
Ko-Ta and K.Hamawaki work together from Kushiro, Hokkaido and Tokyo.

Shka, who spent his childhood in various countries, naturally grew up exposed to the arts of various cultures, and developed a special interest in collecting records.

With the influence of house music, he began to expand his musical spectrum by exposure to various genres of electronic music such as Minimal and Drum & Bass.

Afterwards, influenced by music from labels such as Prologue and Downwards, he became fascinated by the hypnotism and abstract aesthetics of techno and began to explore his own expression and sound in earnest, opening his eyes to the artistry he could express as a DJ.

Through deep, heavy beats with Soundscape somewhat dark, unrealistic, and even ecstatic, he provides a journey into the infinite present.

다양한 나라에서 유년시절을 보낸 Shka 는 자연스레 여러 문화권의 예술을 접하며 성장하게 되었고, 레코드 수집에 특별한 흥미를 갖게 된

그는 하우스 뮤직의 영향을 시작으로 미니멀, 드럼앤베이스등 다양한 장르의 전자음악을 접하며 음악적 스펙트럼을 넓혀나가기 시작했다. 이후, Prologue, Downwards 와 같은 레이블 음악에 영향을 받아 테크노의 최면성과 추상적인 미학에 매료되어 본격적으로 그만의 표현법과 소리에 대한 탐구를 시작하며 DJ 로써 표현 할수 있는 예술성에 눈을 뜨기 시작했다.

그는 깊고 묵직한 비트와 다소 어둡고 비현실적인, 황홀함까지 이르게 하는 본인만의 사운드스케이프를 통해 무한한 현재로의 여행을 선사하고자 한다.

Introducing deep listening and ecstatic abandonment during dances at parties in the rural areas of the countryside, Joseph started djing when he was very young. Over time, he rose to prominence, becoming a landmark first in Milan’s city and then in European techno circles, skillfully navigating between underground events and the world of fashion.

In 2018 Joseph made his debut as a producer capturing the ears and hearts of DJs and dancers thanks to his hypnotic and ritualistic sound. He gained immediate support from renowned artists in the scene, including Jane Fitz, Vladimir Ivkovic and Alexis Le-Tan, just to name a few.

From that moment, Joseph has continued to expand his interest in sound research, constantly raising his DJ sets and music productions to a higher level. His ability to create engaging musical narratives, focusing on the sound mixing and creating a continuum sonoro from the first to the last track, has made his performances for the body and mind of the dancers, deforming the concept of time and space, bringing them into a deep state of trance.

Joseph's meticulous musical exploration reflects an eclectic style infused with an attitude that expresses his deep love for the land of origin. Specifically, his connection with the Italian culture of electronic and experimental music, reaching ambient, techno and trance of the '90s and 2000s has shaped his sound, elevating this musical heritage to a higher level, transcending the boundaries of genres. The result is an escape from reality with a vortex of sounds that immerse listeners in a new dimension of collective hypnosis. 

Evocative, refined and ever-changing journeys have been released on prominent labels such as R.i.O., Oslated, Sound Metaphors, Invisible Inc., Kalahari Oyster Cult, Elephant Gait and Lustpoderosa. In 2020, Joseph founded Blue Sea Studio at the gates of Milan, which has become his creative forge for the production and sound design of contemporary music and original soundtracks.

Joseph's extraordinary skills, both as a DJ and music producer, have made him shine in numerous clubs and festivals across Europe, including Salon Des Amateurs, Der Kindergarten, Planeta Za, Yaga Gathering, Nextones, Klub 20/44 and Pirelli Hangar Bicocca. He continually challenges himself creatively and his fascinating and compelling impact on the music scene is set to grow in the coming years as he continues to stimulate the minds and bodies of dancers with his unique interpretation of hypnotical and trance oriented sound.

Haemi Park 은 미니멀 기반의 음악을 플레이하는 디제이다. 음악을 타고 형성되는 특유의 기류를 퍼뜨리는 그루브를 지향하며, 그것을 통해 플로어에 매력있고 묘한 무드를 만들어간다.

현재 이태원의 클럽 Atdge Seoul 의 레지던트 DJ이며, 파티 및 팟캐스트 레이블 Peaking Too Early 의 멤버로도 활동 중이다.
