The Black Light Disco Show tickles the armpits of the My House Radio airwaves with another sonic spectacular to whet your whistle for the upcoming week ahead. 
 
This week it’s the turn of BLD’s resident international man of mystery (and all-round diamond geezer) Cole Kutz to lead you on a two hour journey of ups, downs, rights, lefts and inter-dimensional jaunts into the disco and house biosphere. With his trusty big butterfly net on a stick, Cole has been busy chasing and catching choice tunes all around the BLD rooftop garden. In the specimen jar for later are tracks from Oldchap, INFRASOUL, Brothers In Arts, Hotmood, Dr Packer and Fish Go Deep ft Mary Cigarettes to name but a few.

1) Tell us a bit about yourself and your record collection.

I started collecting records in 1992. At that time I was still a Michael Jackson fan at the age of 12 and thus had an easy access from the Moonwalk to breakdance-
music. Of course I started with the hip hop of that time, but I had quickly developed a weakness for Planet Rock and the classic old school electro-vocodersound and miami bass. In the early 2000s I got a taste through a Dutch internet radio station “urban dance radio” or something that played exclusively 80’s funk with titles displayed. I can still remember the positive vibe with the sound jumped over to me. However, I still moved musically with both styles in the years 1980-1985. Then I started to get the tracks on record that I liked and always looking for new stuff in this direction. When mixing, instead of cutting and scratching at Electro Funk, the more focus is on clean beatmapping and that the tracks harmonize.
In 2012, 2013 around the corner I came into contact with other people from the Electrofunk and 80's funk scene. This led to a joint project with the E.F.K. Force to release on vinyl. On the other hand I became a member of the worldwide Funkfreaks crew.

2) 45/7 is all about celebrating the 7". Can you tell us a bit about what you love about the format.

I think the format is just cute, it has a completely different charm than the 12” maxi. The simple portability plays an important role here. You can’t get past the 7” if there are versions that are not available on 12” or have only been released on 7”. Concentration on single tracks, just one track per side of the record or single-sided. This simplifies the whole thing a bit at the point - and it`s nice !

3) One hour of vinyl goodness... can you talk us through your selection for your 45/7 mix?

For me the orientation is, I have noticed more on the
80s than modern, that is reflected in the mix. I also love the new stuff, but mainly buy the old records. The mix is a ascent and valleyride starting with 3 -4 newer tracks, then goes over into the 80s track with medium tempo.
From the middle then goes on with with increased BPM varied. It is a mix through the different funk styles that I am into. Two German-speaking things are also included. Towards the end I then added another Classic Electro number, because I just wanted to.

4) Where can people catch you / listen to your music? 

Most recently at Mojo-Jazz Café and le Fonque and as part of the Boogie Times Event in Hamburg.
