"The set is all playful, dubby, tecky, with some psy vibes and also a bit of deep and introspective bits. I played on a hot, sweaty afternoon during day 2—just as the sun was starting to cool down and the music heads that made up this special crowd were starting to get in all their feels. LOIF took over after me with his live set, carrying us into the darker hours of the night with his sexy psy vibes. It was such a magical moment, and I’m so glad to have it captured in this recording!"

A psy-fi power hour from one of Australia’s most exciting artists, LOIF. 

Based in Naarm/Melbourne, LOIF made his production debut in late 2019 with the release of ‘Electronic Organism’ and has since landed on a broad selection of record labels such as Animalia, Ute.Rec, Amniote Editions, INDEX Records and Pressure Dome. Most recently, LOIF released his new album ‘GHOSTWORLD’ on Steeplejack. A project that was five years in the making, featuring collaborations with sina, bluhol, and Nū, ‘GHOSTWORLD’ shows the full breadth of LOIF’s ability to build these immersive worlds, journeying through impeccable sound design and psy-influenced soundscapes whilst accomplishing the balancing act of drawing inspiration from both the natural and the digital. Some stand out moments include the deeply emotive, melancholic tone of ‘As Above, So Below’ featuring sina to the tunnelling, skittering energy of ‘Ektoplazm’. On the album, LOIF has created a world that is so distinctively his sonically that lends itself to his live and DJ sets - a couple of the tracks on there are expansions from a live set LOIF had been working on. Whilst LOIF prefers to play outdoors and is deeply influenced by the nature he is surrounded by in Australia with the DIY park parties and bush doofs, over the last few years, LOIF has made a global leap with performances at Persona, Dekmantel Selectors, Dripping, Ohm, Osmosis, Fata Morgana and Recess (in NYC, which is run by como se DJ, who we featured last week), with plans to return to Asia and Europe in the coming months.

i thought it important to stay true to the emotions that birthed seed. so the first one is from me 

i found this process very difficult, got stuck in the headspace of wanting to make it a good ‘mix’ but it just not working while staying true to these feelings. and i realised that it’s not meant to be make sense, feeling these emotions simultaneously is jarring, it’s abrupt highs and lows, it’s stop and start, it’s silence. cold and warm. it’s the complete disruption of flow following slight cohesion- conflicting. it’s disrupted diversions into altering soundscapes

i had a go at this a few times, and this version was my last attempt. i cried the whole way through and it was on that very spicy full moon, it’s raw- but it’s honest

We are so excited to welcome @opheliek to our mix series. The French, Berlin-based DJ and producer has an affinity for low frequencies, intricate percussions and bass-heavy music in all its forms. As an early lover of dub music, UK techno, IDM, and illegal raves, their sound often finds itself at the intersection between dubstep, techno, IDM, with hints of psychedelic music and trance.

“I had quite a different idea originally for this mix, but ended up being quite ill and super tired the last few days, so the recording had to be much more spontaneous and less planned than what I usually like to do for a podcast. It's more of a feverish dream, and showed me I may have some bottled up feelings and a bit of anger inside (who doesn't, seeing the world we live in now)! It felt good to express it through this mix which ended up being quite intense and psychedelic, but also softer and more introspective in parts.”
