strong of his past researches and experiences, Inerit substantiates a dynamic live with sonorities from past and present projects of his own.

“Influenced by the duality between nature and urban frames and by its transposition to music, I want to purpose through my gigs and releases an unexpected experience to listeners. Over the course of my journeys and long stays abroad, I sculpted little by little my sound and a way to interpret my surroundings artistically.

Balanced between sound design and narrative composition, I'm focused on the strong link between space and music and put effort during lives on creating a surrealistic and intense atmosphere for the listener. ITAE records, a label I recently created with @geinst is the place dedicated to develop our vision and intuition of music.

 This live recording is a mix of improvisations and fragments from my last compositions.”

A cathartic session from Berlin-based DJ Ophélie who channels the intensity of life through the juxtaposition of hard and soft. The mix starts with the fierce soundscapes of Animistic Beliefs, Atrice, Ayesha, and RONI before taking her foot off the gas a little to release into a softer, more melody-driven moment that span across amapiano, dubstep and experimental club. 

Speaking about the mix, Ophélie says, "the last few weeks have been a little intense and stressful for me, so recording this mix gave me some comfort and was a great way to release the built-up tension. I guess it's a good reflection of my mind - probably a bit all over the place, and goes in many different directions, but hopefully it all kinda makes sense in the end, and I'm glad it ends on a peaceful note :)"

Ophélie has also worked as a writer, translator, booker and artist manager for the past six years. With experience in event and artist management, she’s interested in ways to support young artists outside the mainstream, in the hope to build a more equitable music scene. You can find Ophélie on Refuge Worldwide with her Therapy Dog residency and she also works within Communications and Artist Management at the Open Music Lab.

Ophélie is a France-born, Berlin-based DJ with a strong taste for bass-heavy music in all its forms, weird rhythms, melancholic tunes, multiple layers of sound, and some pop-infused emotional bangers. 

Her monthly Refuge Worldwide residency, Therapy Dog, and event series at Kwia, are her ways to experiment and explore the different genres she’s into, while often sharing the decks with friends and artists she admires. As part of the Open Music Lab, a Berlin-based non-profit collective offering free music and production courses for people from marginalized communities to connect and create together, she's interested in ways to support emerging artists outside the mainstream, in the hope to build a more equitable music scene.

To be honest, I have found the world to be particularly dark this last year. When I thought about a concept and vibe for this mix, I struggled to go towards a happier direction, as it felt in contradiction with how I’ve felt recently. I have naturally leaned towards deeper, maybe more melancholic and dubby sounds for this one.
I am nonetheless amazed by all the great people around me fighting day after day for a better and more just future for everyone, it gives me hope and comfort, and that’s also reflected in this mix by lots of brighter, more hopeful moments.

It was actually a very soothing and cathartic experience recording this mix, thank you so much for inviting me <3

𝐡𝐨𝐰 𝐡𝐚𝐬 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐞𝐧𝐯𝐢𝐫𝐨𝐧𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐩𝐚𝐬𝐭 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐩𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐢𝐧𝐟𝐥𝐮𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞𝐝 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐬𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐝 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐚𝐩𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐚𝐜𝐡 𝐭𝐨 𝐦𝐮𝐬𝐢𝐜?
I’m from a place where there weren't a lot of clubs, or wasn’t much happening musically, so a lot of my first experiences with live electronic music were with warehouses, raves, or traveling to Spain close-by to go to afters or parties.
As someone who can be very obsessive about the things I’m passionate about, I just had to know everything, and was making tons of lists about labels, artists, releases, spending hours looking for tracklists on Mixes-db (soon RIP 😢), looking for parties and clubs on RA, and also started collecting vinyls, that I was always too shy to play in front of people.

Going to London and especially Fabric and Plastic People, as well as Freerotation also had a huge impact on me, and opened me up to a whole new world of sound.

Even though this music thing was objectively what was taking the most space in my life, through which I met most of my friends and found most of my jobs, for the longest time I just couldn’t imagine djing in front of people (even my friends), or even try to get better at it. I was thinking about it a lot, but just always felt it wasn’t for me, that I wasn’t really good at it, and wouldn’t manage to get better. I really had to push myself (and still have to tbh) very hard to get out of this mindset.

Aw thanks, really appreciate that <3 with radio sometimes it’s hard to know if people are actually listening, so I’m always so happy to hear someone say that they’ve been enjoying the show!
It will be 3 years of Therapy Dog next October. I started doing shows on Refuge before that, but started Therapy Dog in October 2021. I’m not sure there was too much of a concept to be honest, but I love dogs and mental health is something I have struggled with and find important, and I’m yet to find a quicker fix to being a bit down than petting a cute dog!

I like inviting friends and artists that I like on the show, and try to adapt to their style. If I’m doing it on my own, I’ll try to go with a specific theme. This show brought me so much joy over the last few years, always so nice to get to play some b2bs with friends or dig to find new music, as well as some regular time to practice and experiment outside the club. It also taught me to be a little more confident speaking on air, which I would never have been able to do before that.

Recorded on the night of 29/8/24 for "Le Passeggiate Poetiche" at the Natural Monument of Campo Soriano (Terracina). I played my own music for a hundred people audience laying down under the stars; a special mention for the perfect Funktion One set up.

We're so delighted to have gifted Ophélie with us for our 25th Herbarium episode. Their mix features a wide palette of fastinating breakbeat, bass music and grey area gems with driving character yet smooth organic aesthetics. It's a wonderful fusion of different moods which melt together as one.

Ophélie chose the moss Atrichum undulatum as inspiration for their mix.
It is quite a lowkey plant but that is actually vital for a lot of ecosystems. Unlike most plants, mosses don't have roots and can grow on trees, rocks, and lots of different kinds of soils. It's a plant that's very adaptable and can survive in a lot of environments and extreme conditions. By soaking up water, they play an important role in the development of ecosystems and allow other plants around them to grow and thrive, and are also a valuable shelter for all kinds of insects and microorganisms. I find their color, form and texture super fascinating and I love their fluffy and soft side. I'm a big forest and water person, which is what the moss represents to me. This mix is definitely forest inspired, it's very inspired by the color green and the mysterious and eerie feeling that one can have when going into a forest on its own. There's also some more liquid elements that add a bit of softness to the mix.

ophélie is a France-born, Berlin-based DJ with a strong taste for bass-heavy music in all its forms. They are interested in the fluid, liquid, melancholic, and often emotional aspect of music, achieved through combining multiple layers of sounds, and creating weird (poly)rhythms.
As a producer, they enjoy experimenting with FX, textures, granular and generative sounds, and all different kinds of percussions. They released tracks on compilations by Early Reflex and traverse and have released their debut EP on hundert Records in February 2024.

We are so excited to welcome @opheliek to our mix series. The French, Berlin-based DJ and producer has an affinity for low frequencies, intricate percussions and bass-heavy music in all its forms. As an early lover of dub music, UK techno, IDM, and illegal raves, their sound often finds itself at the intersection between dubstep, techno, IDM, with hints of psychedelic music and trance.

“I had quite a different idea originally for this mix, but ended up being quite ill and super tired the last few days, so the recording had to be much more spontaneous and less planned than what I usually like to do for a podcast. It's more of a feverish dream, and showed me I may have some bottled up feelings and a bit of anger inside (who doesn't, seeing the world we live in now)! It felt good to express it through this mix which ended up being quite intense and psychedelic, but also softer and more introspective in parts.”

Next up on our mix series is London-based sound artist, DJ, live performer, and event curator @Avsluta. She is the founder of Introspective Electronics, an ambient and downtempo platform that hosts regular radio shows, guest podcast series, and intimate listening events.

As a DJ and producer, her work navigates both listening and dance realms, fluidly moving in between chill-out rooms, clubs and festival dancefloors. Tuning into the energy of the people and spaces, the performances are fuelled by dialog, intuition and improvisation.

Since 2012, Caldera (@caldera-caldera) has crafted a distinct fusion of techno and bass, known for its immersive sound design.

His rhythmic experimentation offers a fresh perspective on dance music, exploring a wide range of BPMs along the way.

His music has been released on respected labels like Nummer Music, Kimochi Sound, Pressure Dome, and Well Street Records.

About the mix:
“I wanted to start the mix slightly faster and with more energy than I usually do. I already had the Aleksi Perälä song in my head as an intro for a set so I went for it and built the mix from there. While doing the tracklisting the mix slowly dissolved into the emotional ambient ending which happened very naturally and felt right.”

Inspired by cities and dancefloors where she's lived and explored, London-based Annx’s (@annx-anna-whomp) deep sound echos within her multi-genre selections. 

Her commitment to the scene goes beyond the booth with her events being a staple for psychedelic music on London's club circuit. As well as co-curating perspectives• with Nicole Gordon, she founded and curates Whomp with Lora Mipsum and is part of the Above Below Festival music team.

This mix floats around 140bpm, blending freaky textural bass with psychedelic techno and deep dubstep.

Moved by low-end frequencies from an early age, Seb H. (@sebcantmix) hunts for records that carry the hallmarks of dub and soundsystem culture. UK-born, Netherlands-based, he releases his debut EP, ‘untitled’, earlier this year on London-label kinetic. Available both digitally and on vinyl, it combines rolling sub-bass with introspective textures and dancefloor rooted rhythms.

About the mix: “I have three turntables at home now and I've been really enjoying digging for more ambient/abstract/experimental records to make layered collages of sound. So I wanted the mix to start there, then a friend sent me some unreleased tracks he'd made recently and straight away I knew I wanted to include them, which gave me a destination to aim for. Then it was just a matter of finding a route from A to B.”
