After recent records by Kobosil, ∑ (Summe), Etapp Kyle and Nitam, Unterton continues its path of presenting young faces with a new EP by Somewhen. With his Null EP the Berlin-born and -grown producer expands his musical repertoire, connecting to the tonal range of his live and DJ sets in and out of Berghain.
The four tracks on the Null EP all share a certain sabulosity: crackling, distorted and unpolished sounds are the EP’s ongoing motifs – sometimes in form of distinguishable effects for melodic or rhythmic elements, sometimes more subliminally arranged in the background. Yet, inbetween there’s much room for stylistic diversity.

'Cyclic Operations' captures the best of Spektre's unique sound, starting off, delving into the darker side of Techno and finishing leaving the listener with those classic slick, smooth, Techno vibes.

Including 14 tracks and a full-length DJ mix, the album is cleverly divided up by a series of short musical interludes; 'Introduction' with its dark vocals, 'Intersection' with its futuristic, apocalyptic feel and 'Intervention' which is more uplifting and upbeat. Album highlights include 'Let Me Tell You' which features the strong vocals of Montserrat, 'Sense In Madness' with its spooky synths and powerful basslines, the mystical 'Ghosts In The Machine' with its futuristic sounds, the feel good summer tune 'Opus' and the beautiful 'Steel City Sunrise' which ends the album with smooth echoing vocals and a chilled melodic atmosphere.

Coming in on Atish & Mark Slee's new San Francisco label Manjumasi, Brian Cid returns with another standout EP.

Brian, who runs his own Extinct Records imprint, straddles many musical worlds and has in fact worked for the likes of Beyonce, Cher and Lady Gaga as a master mix engineer. His real love is house though, and he has already had Todd Terry chasing after his beats for his In-house Records. He has also impressed with outings on Nervous and Toronto’s microCastle and now marries New York vibes with fresh house sounds on this latest effort, "Hidden".

Today, we premiere Jon Charnis' remix of 'Hidden,' as the Innervisions associate brings a soothing, slick, and slow burning version, sucking you in with gently undulating drums and jumbled percussion as well as long, sweeping chords.

The first single taken from Slam’s upcoming LP sees the duo select the spiritually driven Ecclesiastic to sit alongside two brand new deeper cuts, Stigma & Thermion, showcasing the sound of Machine Cut Noise

Ecclesiastic brings looped out step sequences together with hauntingly beautiful pads to deliver a truly dystopic sound. The first of two new works from the pair, Stigma, once again shows their production power, scoring a real tension builder. A pulsating start utilises buzzing synths hooks and hovering pads yet always teeters on the edge as Slam pursue their recondite concept. Thermion closes out the EP on a real deep Techno note. Shuddering low end and tight, rhythmic percussive elements set the tone for entrancing pads to glide in effortlessly creating a warm, modulating framework for this sublimely crafted track.

Slam truly are the masters of their craft, with intelligent design always at the forefront.

One of Dancing Astronaut’s artists to watch in 2017 and the man behind one of the most impressive debuts of 2016, Beatport #1 album ‘One Day of Independence’ on Guy J’s Lost & Found, returns to home ground. This time in the shape of 5 incredible remixes by some of electronic music’s most intriguing and brightest stars.

Lehar, Luca Bachetti, Patrice Baumel, Termoment and Lost & Found head honcho Guy J have each reinterpreted their favourite off Khen’s future classic debut.

‘Imaginal Cells’ has been repurposed by the label boss himself into a beautiful slice of melodic goodness. With trippy FX details and a serene breakdown, its yet another Guy J classic rework. 

Diynamic's Lehar offers his take on the Khen and Guy J collabo ‘Prism’, turning down the intensity of the original with a sophisticated touch, he leads the track to deeper waters with an infectious melody that marries the familiar underlying key elements of the original in perfect symbiosis.

The sonic voyage continues with Luca Bachetti’s groovish take on ‘Authentica’. Adding to the recognisable lead melody, he gives the track an almost cinematic and atmospheric treatment that leaves you longing for more.

Patrice Baumel, fresh from the success of his recent remix of Cubicolor, tackles ‘Land of Goshen’. Taking the track in a more driving and pumping direction with a nod to 90s classic Trance, this track will cause a stir in sets from dusk to dawn.

Closing the collection on a trippy vibe with hints of old school Acid and an uncanny detailed soundscape that will leave you in awe, is Termoment’s take on ‘One Day of Independence’. A beautiful and fitting finalé to this weighty package of reworks.
